I used 400 grit and threw caution to the wind...

Orange oil soaked in nicely, and now the feed n wax is soaking in to both sides...

A terry cloth rub down on both sides followed by a quick rub on the back with the wool and my experiment will be complete...

I've actually been getting fantastic results with Gorgomyte for cleaning up "older" frets and conditioning the fretboard.

I have used it in the past, but only if the neck is not attached. personally, I still prefer sand paper, especially with a hard foam rubber pad to avoid burn throughs when working with any finish.

How much pressure are you using? I've never had a burn through. I always use a light touch. Never go at it like a 13 year old boy with a Hustler mag.

Next time you are at Lowes or Home Depot or whatever hardware store, loom at the 0000 steel wool. Its ultra fine and there is no way of getting a splinter from it

I'm not going nuts, I've just learned not to trust the variable pressure from multiple fingertips. You think you're taking it easy, but it's never quite even - the pad takes all the pressure and distributes it evenly. Just being safe rather than sorry.

Another tip: used dryer sheets are great for buffing out frets after cleaning - they soak up any oils, waxes, etc.

Wow, you must be strong like Hulk. I have never had an issue with using my palm and basic pressure.

As much as you like things dressed in black, the chicks in Saudi would drive you nuts!

The ones I've seen without the ninja suit were quite beautiful.


When I left Saudi last, I stopped at a little music store in Bahrain. The guy that owned the place was fascinated that I had Lakland. They are very sought after in the mideast.

Ya, HUGE difference. I've been doing that to my basses and guitars for almost 20 years.

Been there. The steel hairs intermittently shorted the pickup leads, causing all manner of dropouts, crackling sounds etc. which led to repeated and agonizing attempts to fix everything but the actual problem. That wasn't a whole lotta fun. Beware.

Man, that looks great! Glad you dig the neck treatment... it would be hard to come back from... Bass is probably on par with a US Glaub for real now.

Speaking of extra pickguards, any of you need a Lakland-cut 44-60 PG with the plastic still on it. I grabbed it a while back and I never ended up getting around to finding a bass for it. PM me and I will cut you a sweet deal on it.

Maybe mask it off with that blue painter's masking tape? I think it's less sticky. Or just other some less sticky masking tape if the blue stuff isn't!
