way back, maybe 15 years ago, I had a Musician's Friend wallpaper on my PC with a Lakland that looked much like that (although I think it was a 4-94). That's a stunning bass.
Testing, one two..just making sure TB and LOG still alive and well..no post in a few weeks...
I have a 2003 44-02 coming to me this Friday. I picked up the Shoreline 44-94 and just got hooked on it. I just never really paid attention to active basses before and I wish I hadn't. Anyway I figured I needed a backup and since this has Barts vs the Lakland pickups its different enough to warrant the purchase
Thanks for chiming in! Question: has anyone retrofitted new tuners on a 4-94 or 44-94? I have the older Hipshot HB1s but looking into changing them up as the D string tuner is difficult to use - I have done my due diligence on trying to fix it up, clean, lubricate etc. to no avail - and a replacement HB1 happens to be slightly different/raised gear which looked awkward on the set and as such, went back to the old one. I also noticed the new HB1 was not near as smooth as the other older ones. Making new holes on an otherwise great bass is also not very appealing..
The three tone sunburst with black hardware is stunning! I see the Aguilar pups but I don’t remember what pre you put in it.
How old are the tuners? Most of the hipshot tuners are pretty easy to disassemble (and reassemble
)- I had a 44-64 that I got a detuner/xtender for and it had the regular turn (not reverse like the bass) so I took it apart and replaced the tuner to make it work. And then traded the bass

That is news to me. HB1s have changed? Can you show a picture of them side by side?
I have an older BT1 that would be a direct replacement for the HB1 in terms of fit. Obviously that is a de-tuner, not a standard tuner. If you want it, you’d have to use your E string tuner as a replacement for the D string tuner and use the BT1 for the E string. That being said, I’m sure your bass is reverse geared. Hipshot didn’t sell reverse geared tuners directly, at least from what I can gather so your E string would tune one direction and the other 3 would be opposite. Maybe that’s only true for the older 44-60 and older 44-64s though. I don’t know 100%.
Have the LH3 in there. Works well with the Aguilars.
The other has Nordstrand big splits paired with a Bartolini NTMB+ 5.2.

I actually already returned it - the difference is the height of the worm wheel, and subsquent pillow blocks - its subtle but its there - the older HB1 gear wheel sits flat on the body plate, whereas the new HB1 has a slight machined bushing added to the bottom of the worm reel - otherwise they look identical - once installed with older versions, it was noticeable visually and the tuner key is slightly farther from the headstock due to height differential - I was surprised! If I wasn't such a perfectionist I would have left it on, but it was also not buttery smooth to operate - I didn't replace the bushing, so that might have contributed.
Those are pretty sweet man, care to compare and contrast the pickups for us?
Hey guys!! So I got the 2003 44-02 which has the Bart pickups. Its all good except the knobs are not like the newer ones. I don't know if its a Korean series thing, a Bartolini thing, or just something they changed over time but I don't like these as much. They feel a little bigger or something. Where can I pickup knobs that are like what they are using on the current Laklands?
I'll trade you for a like new set of the new ones. PM incoming.
Here is useless post for historical purposes if anyone cares. I was curious what the early Skylines looked like in the control cavity because this was the era when all of the electronics were installed in the USA with the exception of the -01 models which were all done in Korea. Were they shielded? Was it tape or paint? I could never find a post or photo of one so here we go. Very neat and tidy with paint (as opposed to tape which was the standard USA method) although they did add a piece of tape up to the cover (which has tape on the back side) and they used that as a ground spot. So very nice but not identical to how they did it in the USA. Likely because it came from Korea with the paint so why duplicate work. Making that tape look as nice as they do is not a quick task.

Something interesting is that the 3 way switch has a deeper route. Like there is a circle that is deeper than the rest of the route that goes around it. Is that how all lakland's are?
