The 2003 4-94 came in yesterday! after inspection and a set up, feels great and sounds nice - US Barts, impressive! A couple of small scratches and bumps here and there, nothing major, not bad for 22 years old Serial Number: 629! did order a lighter case though - older G&G case, well made but has some wear and age, and heavy!

Nice looking bass. I’ve been jonesing for one of those original Lākland G&G cases. I’ve got the later brown one with mine.

Speaking of cases, has anyone had luck with G&G on getting one similar to the original blond tolex cases? I’m just not a fan of the new gig bag/cases.

I know the plastic ones (SKB and others) are good but the tolex cases are classy…

Last few times I checked G&G, they weren’t taking orders. They’re probably too busy making cases for manufacturers to do custom orders. I’ve been eying the Gator case with the white exterior and blue interior. I have the Gator hybrid style case for my Lākland now. It’s super light and protective enough for what I need. I don’t need another case, but that one looks pretty good and the price isn’t too bad.

I like good quality gig bags but they are not practical to keep my guitars humidified and stacked - I love a good solid construction and the look of the vintage like G&G and Fender (often G&G made) cases, but find them too heavy. Having had hybrids and injection molded cases etc., I now use the Gator GWE bass case - wood hardshell, very slim and lightweight - good protection for light/medium use, not tour grade but surprisingly protective, and affordable - fits all my Laklands without issue - https://gatorco.com/product/bass-guitar-case-gwe-bass/

Incase made one of the better “Lightweight” Durable” and “Protective” Gig bags. They were pretty expensive fortunately I held on to mime. Just my take of course. Fender Style G&G’s aren’t well suited to travel. The basses can move around. The Gators have inserts to stabilize the bass

They do but after shipping, duties and taxes, more than getting a tuner! one of the items is available but at a ridiculous price (more than a tuner) on amazon! I think it is an HB1:

All three of my Laklands are those mini Shallers.

I like these in the picture better, just a personal preference.

Yeah the US Custom models come with those Hipshots. Skylines and Classics come with Hipshot Ultralights (licensed).
If you have Schallers, they’ll have been added by a previous owner….or perhaps you have a Japanese Lakland (I don’t know what tuners those models have fitted).

Only the 4 string USA series have the Hipshot HB1s. The 5 strings get Ultralites.

Way back when, the early Koreans had Y keys, before they started to receive the Hipshot LIC tuners.

They should, but don't actually need to say it, because they are not branded "licensed" anymore.

In the past the Asian Ultralites had "Hipshot LIC" stamped on them, and the USA tuners said only "Hipshot".

Now it is the other way around. The Asian ones have only "Hipshot" and the US made ones say "Hipshot USA".

This all reminds me of my failed attempts to get a Hipshot detune in satin or whatever it's called finish that is on my Skyline Decade and Skyline 44-64, but Hipshot don't/won't carry them in that finish.

So no Hipshot on those sadly...

Not only that, the 1/2" LIC Ultralites are tapered and the USAs are a straight shaft.
