I think I found a finishing technique to make your rest from wenge and prevent splinters.

I have a 55-60. I am thinking of adding a drop-in preamp (Audere or East or suggestions?). Could any of you share your experience or provide some feedback regarding this application? I appreciate the input.
If you're positive that you like active basses, then you can't go wrong with either the audere or the john east preamp. I've had both on Lakland Jazz basses, and the reason I took them out was because ultimately I found that I preferred a passive instrument.
I have always been an active sort of guy. I have found that I really prefer the more HiFi, modern sound. so...
I'm personally a fan of the east, I don't have it anything currently, but there was a time that it went in every bass that I had. The install is easy and it is a very flexible preamp and you just can't beat the sweepable mids

I'm going to throw in another vote for East preamps, easy to install, solidly built and great tonal possibilities. Although, at the moment I'm using a Sadowsky with VTC in a 4-63 (dual J config) and like it even more than the John East

That sounds pretty damn amazing. I really liked the Sadowsky pre once I learned that a little goes a LONG way... it's also one of the only pre's Ive ever found that "flat" and "bypass were the exactly the same.
I've had excellent results with Audere drop-in preamps and have them in all my JOs. I also have the Sadowsky pre-wired preamp, which is once again available, but its an entirely different animal tone-wise.
A little bit does go a long way with the Sadowsky pre, in terms of boost, as I also learned.
True on both accounts, I pretty much set it and forget it in terms of boosting anything and then just use the VTC to adjust based on the needs of the song.
Happy to return to the owners group. Picking up a bass today from Onedertone. This will be my fifth Lakland and hopefully I will hold on to it. All my previous Laklands were fantastic instruments, especially my 55-02! Really miss that bass. I sold two to help pay for one of my Fodera's and the other two, people offered me more money than what I paid for them so they went..lol I'll post some pictures of my former basses and the new one. Very excited about it. It's a fretless AJ5.
