Thanks guys, you know I was just putting it through some paces tonight and it just blows me away every time! My only Lakland at the moment, but it does what I need it to do. I do need to do a proper string change and clean the fretboard, it's been a while so just ordered a few balanced sets of Kalium strings (Circle K) as a treat :D

You can expect this level of flake and depth - only in seafoam.

My new bass is a parts bass!....Well, at least for a couple more weeks, then through some of Carl's Voo Doo magic I'm told it becomes a real bass ;-)

.....my drummer still remains skeptical that this bass exists. I told him some of my friends on Talkbass saw the neck and body sitting in the shop. Now he has to believe! Either way, I should have some proof soon!

Just got a new 55-14!!! Looking for the best sounding and brightest SS strings with a great low B for a 55-94/55-14. Suggestions please???
Lakland SS? Daddario Pro Steels?
To me strings sound different on every bass, and this is my first new US Lakland. Any info would be a great help, thanks!

If you're looking for bright, high quality and long lasting, I agree with DR High Beams. Personally, I use DR Lo-Riders on my US Laklands. They are the best strings I've ever played. They are less bright than High Beams.

I've been using EB Cobalts on my 94 and they're pretty bright and long lasting, plus they feel better to me than SS.

I am however, switching to Kalium strings (Circle K) on all my basses as I prefer balanced sets now - darn JJ :D

Well, since there will be no USA DJ5 for the foreseeable future, I found a used one under 9 lbs and am having Wilkins do a refin in dark, burnt orange. Think Texas Longhorns colors....no I am not a fan or the teams, just the color). I know it'll look great with RW but am not sure whether the blocks will necessitate a pearloid 'guard rather than tort (which would def be my 1st choice if it weren't for the blocks).

Wow, that's a rare beast! Pics? I don't like UT either, but that refin oughta look great.

It will look awesome with tort and the pearloid blocks!

This is obviously not orange, and also obviously not a Lakland, BUT it does have a rosewood neck, blocks, binding, and a tort guard...and it looks stunning...

Open the proverbial can o' worms here, but I find no difference thru body or top load. I like the visuals of the thru body better, but some strings aren't long enough, and I'm not going to pay extra for extra long strings just for aesthetics.

I've never used a taper string for my 5ers, but I'm not the 5er expert, others may chime in.

I feel the same way. Unless the bridge is not properly attached, there should not be an audible difference IMHE.

On another note-the deal is done and my new/used charcoal/rw DJ5 is going to Wilkins for the burnt orange makeover. The seller is including pearloid and clear 'guards, and I'll have a tort one made-then I'll post pics for the court of public opinion to chime in before I decide:p
