I had ebony necks coated so the sound difference was not significant. I would expect that the coating would add some "snap" and brightness to rosewood.

It wore REALLY well. yes - you will get some rub marks....but it's on the acrylic not the wood. it can be fixed easier.....

I'd say go fer it!

Maybe it never sold on Reverb....

Or maybe people don't like Fretless...

Besides.. If there are issues Carl and Leo are only a call away...

Even if ( I mean if...) It costs you a few hundred to" fix" you're still getting a great deal ..

After seeing it... I'm trying to figure out where I could get the cash..... But.... Doubt that's a possibility

It obviously sold on Reverb.

GC return is 45 days unless it's marked Vintage in which case it's 3 days.

Go for it. You only lose shipping on a return and most basses ship on GC for about $20. If it's not as listed they'll refund your $20 too- I did just that last week on a Tune "fretless" that was a poor de-fret and not listed as such. Lots of fingerboard rips that weren't even filled.

I need unlined so it's a no go for me. I may end up buying a fretted US candidate and having my luthier pull the board and install an unlined ebony one.

Went with th DR pure blues that you suggest. So far I like them but really like a .130 B. Even on my 55-02 35" scale neck it's a tad floppy. I'm going thru body. I will know more after tommarrows gig as if the are winners.

I use the .40-.120 set so I obviously embrace the low tension. They sound and feel snappier to me and as a bonus, they seem to be easier to play.

Floppiness is a state of mind ;)

You're braver than me. There's the unlined '00 in the classifieds I'd love to have, but I'm skeered of the blank plank...

Ha! Ask my wife about floppyness ;) So far I like them I just feel the B is a bit lost compared to the other strings. I tune my fives down ahalf step like my band.....I know.... I know...I don't have to
With a five but I know these covers in 440 and I'm old and lazy.

So......I've had my 98' Shoreline gold 4-94 in a state of disrepair over the last 6 weeks or so as it was undergoing a series of mods.

1 - Turn it into a 3 control knob bass. I filled 4 of the 6 holes with alder and epoxy. I then re-drilled two of four holes I previously plugged to make the three knobs and toggle switch more evenly spaced. I've ran this bass passive for most if its life (wired VVT)....minus a short stint last year when I installed a Nordstrand active preamp. However, it's always bugged me having the extra knobs when wired passive.

2 - Have a set of unexposed covers made for the previously installed Aero pups

3 - Refinish the shoreline gold with a vintage sonic blue.

4 - Make a set a mint pickguard and matching control cavity cover. (I made the guard and cover myself....what I PITA)

In the office this morning:

Centenary festival for the village I live in. Sound engineers didn't really come over as the most professional: Mixing tent was beside the stage, behind one of the speaker arrays!
Sooo glad I have my live setup down to a finely tuned machine, everything dialled in straight out of my rucksack:
DJ4--> Eden Tube Warmer --> Eden WTDI --> (simultaneous) DI out to FOH; Level out to Eden Nemesis EN8 Jr 25w combo.

If there's no proper FOH support, the little combo amp is replaced by a 300w Ashdown + 410 cab.

Just me, a keyboard and two vocalists: got to do a lot of melodic stuff and chordal stuff. Spent most of the time thinking "I'm so glad I have such a reliably made and reliably good-sounding bass guitar!"

I know you guys spend a lot of time (and money!) drooling over the USA Laklands, but the Skylines really do deserve a lot of love - they're so dependable!

Got lots of compliments and thanks afterwards too.

OMG I love both of those! How do you like the 55-64? It is certainly on my G.A.S. list but they're hard to come by.

I ahte to see a good Shoreline Gold color disappear but I like it!

Pat Wilkins did the finish. It was a custom color based off on an old DuPont/Duco color swatch. It's basically a more white washed version of his sonic blue. I "kinda" miss the gold. Prob cause I had it so long and was mentally used to seeing it in that color. It's weird to see my bass in it's current color state. However, the shoreline gold has no luster under stage lights. Lighter (more white based) colors can really take on new dimensions when washed out by stage lighting. Plus a lighter instrument has a bit more pop than something a bit more neutral like shoreline gold. From a distance shoreline good looks brown.
