Lakland Owners Group #69

Well I scored a great deal on a barely used 55-02 Lakie. I now have a brother for my 55-01. There are a few Differences in the basses build wise. The 55-02 is lighter around 9 lbs. My 55-01 is a 2013 build and is heavy and kills my shoulder on long gigs. I'm sure it's over 10lbs.
The 55-02 is sleeker in some small ways. The neck is the biggest difference. The 55-01 neck has much darker maple more vintage looking, and has a gloss finish. The 55-02 neck is very light maple and has a very thin satin finish almost looks bare.
The 55-02 has rounds and will wear them. I have promised myself to force myself to leave rounds on it. My 55-01 has my much loved Chromes. The Lakland pre and pups are great and I'm having a ball dialing in diffrent tones.
I took it to my gig last night and the punch and sustain was quite impressive. I love both basses but the 55-02 has become my #1 now.

Well, it's going to be next week before I can actually set up a proper shoot, so here's another phone pic of the new girl, and her sister. Obviously, both are dressed in Marty Bell's finest. The orange one has the Neo Punch, the purple one has Nordstrand pickups.View attachment 3157361

I recognize the purple one.... I think!

What roundwounds are fellow 55-02 or Lakland 5 players using? I'm not use to rounds so any help would be appreciated.
I use DR Longnecks- work great for stringing thru the body.

I would like to check out the Lakland nickels though, as I'm digging nickel strings now (after not for ~18 years)... or any other taper core nickels that would facilitate the string thru body.

Lakie Nickels are nice....I really like them.

I have also put a set of D'Addario NY XL on my PJ "white lightnin"....like them alot.

OK, so on the surface, this video/cover doesn't seem to make much sense (Weezer, Weird Al, Total -- W*T*F?). But, you have to watch it - it will change your life. Guaranteed.
I saw a live performance video of this and thought it was pretty neat, and assumed it was more or less a spontaneous thing. Not quite as novel to me knowing it may have been originally conceived as a studio arrangement. Still kinda cool in a quirky way though.
