Have silly question for you guys, I'm about to order a Lakland and I cant decide if I should get the DJ, or the 44-64, I know supper different basses, I do have a 44-02 and a 55-01 that was converted to a P bass.
I'm looking for something with punch. I know I know pj vs J totally different, and I have a carvin SB 5 and a warwick corvette so 2 j style basses already, and the obvious answer is the PJ to add to the collection.
I just want to know from guys who had one of this 2 basses or both and what they liked or disliked about them

I was thinking of the chisonic 5 but 35 scale basses scare me ha ha, I guess I could also get a 44-01 and add the single chisonics, wow it really sucks when you see all the options and you want it all but need to choose one.
I'll second @basspraiser on this one. In my 3 Lakie HB's I had the Chi singles; Hammon Darkstars; Barts. I preferred them in that order. I still have a Hammy screaming to go in something...fretless. I like the CHi buckers as they provide more tones but IMO nothing beats a big single for ultimate tone.
Hello fellow Lakkies. I need your help. My current bass is a Skyline 55-01, natural finish, set up very low with chrome flats 130-45. The sweetness is the Nordy designed Dingwall pups purchased and installed from a fellow TBer. I also have a Aguilar- 2 band pre as her heart.
Now I love this bass plays like a dream can roar or lay soft in the mix. I play in a country covers new and old, classic rock and southern rock. The bass does all I need.... love her. The only downside is her weight which is killing my shoulder tried various straps..... it's my shoulder more than the bass.
So today I spied a 55-02 for sale locally. It's like brand new a few months old the trans red quilt top model a bute. The owner says it has Bart's as pups and is right from the factory. We came up with a killer price and I'm tempted to strike. He said his bass is around 9lbs.
Are the 55-02s known to be lighter? I know except for the pups, pre and quilt top it's the same as a 55-01. Lately I have thought to get back to a hotter sound and feel the 55-02 will get there maybe with rounds ( can't belive I'm thinking rounds) so let me know what you think...good buy or stay with my baby?

No, the 55-02 with Barts is not a lock to be more aggressive than the Nordys in your 01. Just switching to rounds will get you to a more rockin' tone with more certainty.
Also, as for the weight, they are really cut from the same cloth so to speak and from my experience the weight is pretty consistent between the two, my 55-02 is 9.5 lbs and my 55-01 was 9.6 lbs. I dunno, maybe they select the lighter body blanks for the 02's but the difference is probably not too big.

They have a 4460 with Chisonics... Bassed ( mis-spelled intentional) upon this pay and your previous post I think that may be a great entry point.
a 35" really is not that scary.. in Lakland's world... It's really 34.5" because of the way they move the bridge....

Oh... if it's only a few months old and original, it shouldn't have Bartolinis. It should be equipped with the Lakland pickups and pre, which do stand a better change at having an edgier tone.
Whaaaaaat up brother? Yea the looks of this bass has me hooked alone. I was never a natural bass finish guy but I love my 55-01. I'm thinking the pre and 3 way switch will give me more options plus that MM pups has to be hot. I played a used MM Bongo a week ago and except for it being *hit ugly brown it screamed, so the MM pups got me looking.
Lighter? Not all is the time.... But more versatile? Oh yeah!
Weight varies with all of the imported Lakland's.... Any model
But I can say if your like the 55-01 you'll love the 55-02 ... Because it's much much more variable and had a wider tonal range
Agreed.... Newer Lakies have the LH3 HANSON System unless the pickups were replaced
You will probably find it very hard to get a Lakland to sound like a Bongo. I would call Nordstrand and ask them what pickup and pre comes closest in sound to a Bongo. And after that, pickup placement, and if it was a dual humbucker, single, or J/MM must be taken into account. Best of luck to you!
By definition, Lakland 5ers ARE 35" scale. I measured SC's neck and it's 17.5" from nut to 12th fret.
If the bridge is positioned farther toward the rear end of the body, it will make the reach feel shorter though. My profile pic 34" First Act Delgado has a bridge apr 5" from the body end and no upper horn. The bass body hangs a good 6" or more toward my left hand, than all my other basses. It feels like I'm reaching into another room to play the first fret notes.
I love my 55-01 35" neck to me it makes the B so much better. A 34" feels like a short scale to me now.
Yes, the extra inch adds a lot to the B string, and makes the E better too IMO. But, it detracts from the D and G a bit. Noticing this, while playing various differently scaled basses, is what lead me to Dingwalls years ago. After trial and error, I've settled in 34 and 35 inch parallel fret basses. There's always a give and take. And radically fanned fret basses posed too many obstacles for me, at that time.
This needs a few more "eths" tagged onto the end of the words.

And it's a fretted maple fingerboard, NOT the fretless I ordered in Febuary!
Such a shame. It'll have to go back.
It's after business hours here in Germany, so I can't phone the retailer. I do have one hope though - the delivery invoice clearly lists a Lakland fretless 55-02 Honeyburst, so it might be that they did at least order a fretless 55-02 as part of a bigger order and have just sent me the wrong one. In that case, the bass I want (and have paid for!) is in Frankfurt rather than in Chicago.
We shall see.
