Yes. Took me forever and guidance from this thread to figure out how to do it on the LH3 pre. Scroll back a couple pages and you’ll see the pics showing where the gain trim is if you can’t find/see it on the preamp.

Thanks a lot! It’s a great bass all around. The new control plate brought it to life in my opinion. 920D Custom Shop seriously makes great stuff. Their wiring harnesses are incredibly clean and built like a tank.

Yes; If I'm not mistaken they come from the factory with the output set for clarity (and probably best S/N) and that going for more output could lead to distortion. My 4402 in active has about the same output as a P bass. Is this about right?
When in passive mode, the signal is much lower. I was thinking of turning down the pre-amp output.
OTOH, maybe this Lakland pre / Barts is supposed to be low output in the passive setting.

I actually reduced mine to match the passive output (when EQ is set flat) so I can switch back and forth between passive/active and not have to adjust pedals/amp/DI levels, etc. The trim adjuster is so tiny and sensitive, I don’t think I could find the default output setting again if I wanted to.

After spending an hour with a parametric EQ, I find that it is just minor tweaks to make it sound great for all pup positions. My favorite (at least for today) is MBF800 mostly flat and bass EQ flat for the bridge pup, usually with the coil tap pointed towards the neck. For the neck, just a bump for bass and mids. Like the recomendations given...
This bass is really sensitive to right hand position, which I really like.
I have the pup heights exactly at factory specs.
The trim pot does look very sensitive and I would want to figure out a way to return it to normal before I change it; perhaps a DC resitance or voltage measurement although all I've looked at is the photo.
I will raise the neck pup to see if that helps much with volume as well as adding more meat the the tonality.

Indeed! That's how I earned it. This is a longer and dumber story that it might first appear... I have ownes a few Laklands and this was never an issue. Until this one. Because for some silly reason I had this idea that the bar was bent. and it was really bugging me because I was convinced that all teh others were straight dammit. So, in going over it this weekend, string changing, tweaking and cleaning I decided to try my hand at gently straightening it. What could go wrong? Turns out they're made of s*it metal and of course I broke it. And had a job that night with no replacement so a slight level of immediate panic set in. Nothing a couple hours, some 1/4" aluminum bar stock and a little quick fabrication couldn't fix, even if for the short term. A lovely piece too if I might say so. But I also ordered up an AllParts AP-0742-010 string retainer because it looked like and exact match. And it is. But I'll be damned if I could remember which way was right. Turns out it's self explanatory once I opened the package because of the way the screw head head holes were drilled. And the pics above confirmed that. But that one is so nicely finished and the All Parts is craply finished that I think I now have string retainer envy. It never ends.
That said, it turns out I was only half crazy because the one that was on theer was indeed installed upside down so that was apparently messing with my ying AND yang at the same time!
