my old Warwick $$ had a great, dark, growling sound I could never coax out of this bass

You can always get a MM route where the 44-94/02 (or 55-94/02) neck J route is, and install 2 growlier humbuckers. That’s how Sexual Chocolate was born.

Ive also been itching for a custom 4-76 (Lakland’s Stingray) w/ a reverse P pickup. I’ve been told there’s not enough room, and that if the pickups are too close to each other, there’s a negative sonic impact. All I can do is trust the experts. They know more than me about bass building.

I'm coming up on the one-year anniversary of acquiring my very first Lakland; a 55-02 Deluxe. To say I am VERY concerned over what year two may bring is an understatement. I've sold off a LOT of other gear yet am seriously considering entering a 12-step program as I can NOT maintain this overzealous pace (although I'm still pondering one more, @mark beem! ). Fortunately, they're all Skylines because I'd be divorced if they were US models.

There's only one I've not yet fully bonded with and that is the DJ4. It sounds great on it's own but when I play along with music, it disappears. I haven't tried it in a band context yet but it's all scooped and I prefer more mids in my tone. I have an Audere Pre I picked up here that I've yet to install but if that doesn't help, I may need to move on it. It's BEAUTIFUL though and I love the paint job on it even if the cruddy phone pics don't do it justice.

Not sure I can count how many I've owned (but I'm sure others can....)...

Don't worry about not bonding with a few... We've all done it...

My non-bonding experiences:

* Hollow body ( neck related)
* " Hands of God" Scheff ( neck related)
* Any DJ ( Body size/ playing comfort)
*The most beautiful 55-76 ( black beauty).... Didn't fit my "style" of playing
* Jade..... Dunno why.. owned her twice
* Any decade ( not my body shape)

Most of those I lusted over and over.. The Scheff and black beauty I tried to buy multiple times.... But even when I got them... Not quite bonding.

Jade... Twice engaged so I saw something.. But had to give her up when something better came along.

Love and learn.. The Lakland universe has something for everyone

You know, I liked that tone but not as much as I like the P tone out of the 44-94. I wouldn’t trade pickups. And part of the Warwick sound, a big part, is in the choice of materials. The unruly MEC electronics, the exotic wood choices, the huge bronze frets. Simply putting in new humbuckers wouldn’t recreate the warwick sound completely.

I’m just teasing you, Brother! Though TBH I’ve played some big bills and I didn’t really care about looking like an amateur - I still grabbed a shot here and there from the stage. As a bass player nobody is watching me anyhow!

Good morning all! After almost a year of not owning a Lakland or a Pbass, I’m thinking about rejoining both clubs in one swift motion! However, before I make any rash decisions, I’m coming to the experts for some knowledge!

What info is out there on the first Duck Dunn model that was practically a replica of his ‘58/59 Fender Precision? This is the one that has the maple board, sunburst finish and gold anodized PG, and potentially a limited edition of 30 or so. Being that Duck is on my personal Mt. Rushmore of bassists, it’s be cool to own a signature made similar to his famous ‘58!

Also, is there a major difference in quality between the older Korean made Skylines vs the newer Indonesian made versions? The few that have caught my eye are Korean made around 2003. For instance, I know older MIJ Fenders tend to have a higher regard for quality/consistency than the newer MIM models.

Any info, experience or guidance is greatly appreciated!!

Finding one of those would be a win for sure!

I've only seen pictures.

As for any with difference.... I've not seen any .. My 5564 is Indonesian and is a great bass...
