I prefer the bass you landed... first year for the 44-02 with the original Barts. From a reputable source. I'd day you did get a good deal.

Let us know how the 1st year Skyline plays. Certain folks claim the early ones are magical.
Personally, it would depend on the particular instrument.
When my SN 11’s truss rod needed repair, Carl said that if his 2 chances at fixing it failed, he could just make a new neck for the bass. I said I’d rather pay whatever it took to get the original neck fixed. He probably thought I was crazy. But, Hugh McFarland only made so many Lakland necks, and they truly are something special!
Now, when I bought a used Skyline JO 5er with a lengthwise twist, I wouldn’t have cared one bit to replace the neck! The seller took the bass back and had Lakland replace it.
I almost bpught that exact bass 6 months ago (bought the exact same model for something like $50 less and slightly lighter).
I like the color better than the one you missed here on TB and that price isn't bad at all!
Thursday's gig was a medium size bar with a plywood on the back wall (with a mural).
With an Ashdown ABM500 and a GB 2x12 I just couldn't get enough definition.
Part of the problem was a guitar player that was too loud and I'm tired of allowing this knid of BS.
Last time I played this room I had the same amp and a P bass and had the same problem.
Tonight is a much bigger room.
I could substitue the cabinet with a Berg HT322 which would be overkill.
I could substitue the amp with a GK MBF800 or SWR SM400.
I could also bring the NTM 44-01 although don't really have the set up right and the string to string balance is a bit off. Or could bring the P.
Don't want to hump too much gear and there might not be a problem but want to be prepared.
Suggestions?

Yes. Fix the real issue. The only people who like a too loud guitarist are too loud guitarists.
You guys use PA? Any way you can tilt your amp back like a monitor wedge so you can hear yourself? Then have the FOH take care of your bass.
2 guitars, bass, drums, keys, lead and usually 2 back up vocs
Vocs only in PA but we play mostly in 100 seat rooms
My cabinet is about 18" off the floor; both guitar amps are on stands too.
I sub’d recently in an original music band, just one show, while their bassist recovered from a broke wrist. Lead guitarist was drowning out everything including the drums, during volume check. I don’t care to be an a-hole when it comes to sounding good. So, I had him turn down like 3 times until the mix and volumes were right. I didn’t learn all their material in a week to sound like crap! Plus, I’d left my hearos at my drummers house. Moral of my story: get the guitarist in line, or tell em “see ya” and find another band. Life is too short!
Nevermind then.
Either tell the guitard to play like an adult or bring a bigger cab. And ear protection.

Brought a set of custom molded Westone ear proctectors this spring so right there with you!
I like to go to gigs with the idea that I'm a damn good player and I can make it work.
He says that he couldn't hear himself and even went to a reasonably shrill EQ.
Maybe it was just a really bad room and stage for our set up.
OTOH, I'm loosing interest in adult day care with band members.
Will start with the 44-02 and the Ashdown and bringing a 72' P and the GK MBF800.
Curious to see if a bass or amp change would make an apreciable difference.
Will report back.
I have a fair amount of experience with drunks and a reasonbaly short fuse since I've been sober for a long time and cherish my hearing.

I hear ya with the adult day care. I’m getting old and cranky myself when it comes to volume. And being on time. And having a good sense of time/tempo.
I wore my earplugs last night. I’ve got 15 and 25 dB filters. Used the 15’s and there were moments when I wished I had the 25’s in.
Since I play at a church, my "action shots" are very tame and boring....one of our Guitarists loves photography as much as he likes guitars and he has started "The many basses of Doug" thread on Facebook.
Sorry I am not photogenic but you should be looking at the basses anyways...they are!!!
