Lakland Owners Group #69

not MK4s. If it was me and my $, I'd by Nordstrand soap-bars for an XX-01. Either the big splits (humbugging) or big singles (single coil) or zen blades.
Agree. I took out the MK1 and tried both the Big Singles and Jazz Bar pups from Nordstrand. Decided I liked the Big Singles the best. They put them in P2 shells so they would fit the o1 pup cavity.

Has anyone with a Skyline every upgraded the Bart MKI pups for the MK4 and was it worth it? I saw an old thread where the guy didn’t think it was but read elsewhere that it fattens the neck sound more. I think that is without changing the preamp. I find the G string can sound a bit weak but I could probably fix that with EQ. Thoughts?

I’ve had a couple of 55-01’s now where I’ve swapped the MK1’s for Bart MK5C’s (direct swap for the MK1’s, but US made and dual-coils), as well as the preamp swapped for an NTMB. Turned those basses from great to truly superb in my eyes.

I have a feeling, that US Laklands nearly disappeared from second hand markets - here on TB, Basschat and other Europeans platform.. do you see it, too?
I think we are at an odd place where there’s a lack of gigging and going out, SH prices went crazy last year (in U.K.) and seem to be slowing down a bit now - and US Laklands cost enough and aren’t super plentiful that the owners Probably didn’t buy, and probably wouldn’t sell at a whim.

As of a few weeks ago I’m back in the Lakland (Skyline) club.
Bought a short scale hollow body, threw some labella low tension flats on it and it’s every thing I was hoping for.
When I received it from Bass Central there was pretty bad buzzing from the pickup cavity springs. Not knowing what to do and not wanting to put any money into a brand new bass I reached out to Lakland customer service and received a response from Brian. He sent me some instructions and then mailed me some surgical tubing to replace the springs. Great customer service. The bass has no more buzz/rattles now.
This is my first short scale after almost 40 years of playing and it sure is great. Can’t wait to gig with it, whenever that may be.

Congrats.

Whats the info on the upright???

Who made it?
Year etc?

Nothing fancy on the upright.
Shen SB88 2019. I’ve been taking lessons after not playing one since the 8th grade. Unfortunately it’s been causing me some hand pain so I’ve had to take a break.

Sorry about the hand pain!

I've picked up a used Christopher a few years ago... Is a blast to play!

My only issue is the low notes on the E string are not as defined as I'd like...

I get some shoulder pain... But nothing to crazy!

Absolutely my next Lakland, relatively rare in the UK though. Also can’t decide on flats or tapes though (La Bella either way of course).
