Flamed maple neck on a Skyline. Only Lakland throws out such woods for the standard series.

Nice, classic look, so many pup options for swapping out the pups for diff characteristics.
Might be post Fralin era. Fralin have black and white cloth wiring. That’s the tell.

The neck pickup on the Skyline is nowhere as hot as my Lollar P in another bass with the same strings. That’s why I was thinking they might be Fralin’s. Just my .02 again.

The Fralin era was over by then. I remember clearly that the transition on the Jazz basses (Fralins on the 44-60/Joe Osborn and Aeros on the Daryl Jones, both to Hansons) came in 2006-07. On the P basses, they went from Fralin to Hanson in the 07-08 time frame.
I’ve wanted another Lakland Precision since I sold my last US 44-64 (I wasn’t too keen on the sunburst). When this got listed over here in the UK, I was instantly into the Black/Black/Maple vibe. As such, this will be wearing La Bella RX steels when I get round to changing them.
It’s a 2016 model, think it’s a ‘Classic’ (PP4002x), it currently has a retro-fitted EMG Geezer Butler pickup in it, however I’ll be putting the original Lakland p’up back in as I really liked it on my previous 44-64.
This joins my US 44-94 custom, 55-01 & Skyline DJ5 in my current stable.

looks great Si- I was considering that bass for months when it was in GuitarGuitar but couldn't justify getting it when I don't really like black basses!
Had to do a double take - The phrase "Black and Tan" has a very different meaning in the British Isles! If you play any gigs in a Chicago based Irish bar maybe don't call it that!
Finally got my 44-94 back from the shop, doing a slight neck shim and fixing pickup. Unfortunately the pickup seems to still not be working properly. Action is now VERY low and nice. The most noticeable thing, however, is how different this bass feels after having played only the P bass for the last 3 weeks basically. It obviously plays faster than a p, but it also feels a little like a toy ATM. Need to get used to it again ha.

This may be a dumb question buuuut:
My 44-01 Skyline gets a lot louder when I turn the preamp off. I know it’s not a true passive mode and effectively just bypasses the eq but I would expect it to be louder with the preamp on. Is this normal? It’s noticeable and I have to adjust levels to allow for the difference.
