Thinking about doing a 55-94, anyone have pics with a quilt top in the Blue Black Burst to Teal Sunburst?

I sent Lakland an email a few weeks back asking about some custom options but they haven't responded yet. I'm hoping they can do more of an aqua blue finish. If not, I may consider one of the above finishes or talk to them about an exotic wood top. I'm turning a milestone this year and decided to treat myself.

They're pretty flexible on finishes for USA custom builds. Aqua blue seems quite doable to me, and I bet it'd look awesome. Try emailing again, or just give them a call. Contact - Lakland Bass Guitars

Quick question for the group. My neck pickup seems to have magically stopped working. When I roll the blend over to the neck pickup, the bass goes quiet until it just becomes muted. In active or passive mode.

Has anyone ever run into this? Any thoughts on problems/fixes?

No real idea, but I have heard of pickups de-gaussing and losing their magnetism. It's very rare, but I have heard of it. Get a tech to check the wiring first (might just be a loose connection, who knows?), if there's nothing wrong with the wiring then I think you're going to have to splurge on a replacement pickup. Lakland do sell them individually so at least there's no supply problem.

But as I say, I'm no expert. Try posting in luthiers corner, see what the folks over there say.

Thanks Doug! I am going to see him in a couple weeks to shim the neck so I’ll ask him about it then too. This is a great reason why I need a backup bass, which I presently do not have! I got a great deal on this bass brand new just two years ago from Music Zoo. My wife was shocked at the price. As was I. I was shocked that I got it for a little less than $3k. She was shocked I spent nearly $3k on a bass. I’m guessing my backup will not be a USA lakland lol.

They don't, no. Your best bet is to reach out to Lakland if you need one, though there are other options online (quickguards, etc.). They usually require you to send in your guard to use as a template. The reason is that there is some level of inconsistency in the Skyline series guards.

Picked this one up today off of the Lakland B stock mailer. Just below the contour, between the bridge and the pick guard, there's some faint-ish discoloration. I'm colorblind and can't actually see it personally ha.

It's been 25 years since i've played a p bass. and that was a peavey copy, with a skinner neck profile. This is going to take some getting used to. But it sounds great and the action is very very low. And other than the spot, the fit and finish is very nice. Much nicer rosewood board than on my last skyline. The back of the neck is not much of a looker tho..

I thought about that one for a minute. It didn’t weigh a ton like my 44-51, and that mineral stain is nothing I would even notice or think twice about. And, at a B stock price, I don’t care about neck grain.... plus, it’s got a rosewood board!

Please educate me on what this is

I don’t really know how I got on the list to be honest. But I bought a new 44-94 from lakland and ever since I get a weekly email. It’s 95% skylines offered at a 25-30% discount or so. Occasionally there are some USA builds on there as well.

It’s already hard to nab the good ones, unless you’re able to contact them within minutes of receiving the email.

But, I am not complaining. I have had more than my fair share of killer Laklands. Time to share the goodness!

It should be said that they ARE either in a demo bass condition or considered flawed (B stock). My 44-64GZ has a small paint flaw or two that are touched up with black sharpie, and a chip missing out of the fretboard edge. My gorgeous 44-51 weighed 11.4 pounds and has enough swirl marks to be considered in used condition. Randy said his purple GZ weighs 12. Those weights alone could easily put them in a B stock class, I would think.

Thanks brother. Did you ask brian how much it weighed? I didn’t even bother, it doesn’t feel like a featherweight but doesn’t seem too overkill.

my brother has an 80’s les Paul custom that probably weighs 13 pounds. Anything lighter than that generally doesn’t bother me.

I’ve been on the B-stock list for a while and finally decided to bite on the red/black 44-51 they listed two weeks ago but was too late. I don’t think I would have been real happy with a bass that weighed nearly 12 lbs though! Yikes!

Sorry to hear you missed out. This one was on there for several weeks as well, I believe. Made me think maybe they don’t cycle through these that fast, but it sounds like they do.
