Hey can i get a little feed back.
How straight does everyone keep their 44-94 neck. I'm trying to get it to 0.01" in relief but when i get it there. It does not matter how high i raise the saddles, frets 1-6 give me feet buzz.
I almost have it at 0.014" relief before those first few frets don't buzz.
Its a '98 maple neck and with standard gauge strings.
Seems to me like there a slight bow in the neck between the nut and the 8th feet then flat from there to the heel.
Any geek help on helping me get a better neck relief so i can being my addition down. I have to keep it at 6/64 to have no get buzz on the first 12 frets.

Trying not to sound like “Mr Obvious”.... but, fret buzz in the lower register (like you describe) means the neck needs more relief, which is exactly what you’re seeing. Fret buzz higher up the neck is remedied by raising the saddles.

Trying to get 1/100 of an inch relief on a 23 year old neck would be miraculous, without some fretwork or some time on a Plek machine. In other words, I’m sure some frets are grooved, have flat spots, or are worn down more than others. I would recommend a fret leveling, crown and polish before trying to get such low action.

JJ did some nut and fret work on my 10 year old 44-01 and it plays like butter with VERY low action even though some frets have significant wear. Refret somewhere down the road, but for now, plays great! JJ DOES GREAT WORK! Thanks again.

Its just been a minute since I had the Labella's put on it, set up and gone over... nothing seems or feels wonky... but I really should learn to do a good set up.

But my 44-01.. It does need a fine tooth comb that's beyond my leaning curve

Laklanders, I'm thinking about installing different pickups in my MM/J bass, and had considered using a Bartolini 2J Squared MM and one of their humbucking J's. The Bartolini site mentions that the 2J Squared MM is the one that Dan Lakin and Bill Bartolini developed together for the classic "Lakland tone".

The diagram would lead me to think that when split using a series/single/parallel switch to the single setting that I wouldn't be getting the sound of a J/J bass but more of a reversed P/J.

Is this the wrong pickup? Am I reading the diagram wrong? It talks about them being wired as split coils, but is that side-by-side split coils or P-bass like split coils?

They just use the different colors to show the split coils- if the front coil was all red, it wouldn’t look split.

Hey all. Any suggestions for hum canceling jazz pickups for my Lakland DJ-4? I love the tone of the stock pickups but the hum bothers me. I know in a band setting it won’t be noticeable but just curious to see what’s available or recommended that sound similar to the stock pickups of the DJ-4. Thanks for any recommendations.
