Lakland Owners Group #69

Hey all, so I've been looking at used Skyline 44-02s. I came across two from 2007. One has Lakland pickups and one has Bartolini's. Can anyone tell me when Lakland started using their own pickups in the 44-02 Skylines. And is there any difference in those first pickups and preamps to current ones. Here are the links.

For Sale - Lakland Skyline 44-02 MIK

So would there be any difference between these and later Laklands like from 2015 or 2020?

Also, I've never bought from TB before. Can those sales be trusted like on Reverb?

Thanks so much for any advice.

Over the years I’ve purchased 20 or so basses, 5-10 amps/cabs, and countless pedals from Talkbass. I’ve never had a bad experience. Just make sure the seller has a good rating, and you’ll be just fine. Plus, TB is much cheaper than Reverb!

Happy hunting!

Well, I put an offer on this and it got accepted. With tax and shipping came out to around $900. 2007 Skyline 44-02 with Bartolini pickups. Claims to be in mint condition. Seems like a fair price.

Anyone have something similar?

I just posted a bunch of new Laklands on the TB Bazaar (this forum’s best kept secret). The new price is $1800 US. I think you did well for that price.

Congrats! I have a DJ-4 in natural and it's the best bass I've ever owned. I love how it's a sleeker looking Jazz bass. Enjoy!!

Can anyone comment on the differences in neck profile between the DJ4 and the 44-60 (specifically the Skylines). I have a 44-60 but always have a thing for the DJ models. I guess I'm looking more for front to back profile. I assume that the nut width is the same.

So when did Lakland switch from the Bartolini pickups to Lakland pickups. It seems that some of the 44-02s I looked at from 2007 had the Barts and some had the Laklands.

I always thought it was 2006 but my memory is getting worse so 2007 is certainly likely. I know it happened mid-year. I always thought the electronics change happened the same time as the move to the Indonesian plant.
I'm with Johnny on the electronics change, I thought it was in '06. I believe they changed the 02/94 basses first, then the J bass pickups (06-07?), and then the P basses (07-08?).

The Indo Skylines came in late 2008, I remember because the first batch was the first run of the Skyline Decade and I bought one. I also remember walking into the shop around that time and seeing the brand new Plek machine.

A very good day for me, scored HB27 and I'll call it fantastic. Never would have thought my 4-94 would have such company! I've admired these from the start, so saw this as a real opportunity. Good drive, hang and a smooth sale.

Major congrats! I had a Skyline HB with Dark Stars for more than a decade, it was a great bass.

So when did they make the switch from Korea to Indonesia for the Skyline series?

Every year (except the past 2) we do a 2 hour set of holiday music ( both traditional and contemporary) at a local festival...

There IS Lakland content as my LOG bass is in the stand behind me and was used on about 1/4 of the songs... Hopefully will be able to post a couple of trax soon!
