May I ask, did you purchase the 44-02 direct from Lakland, or through Bass Central? I bought my 44-02 from Bass Central, back in 2019. It's Cherryburst, but if and when I ever buy another bass, I want natural wood colors like yours. Congrats on the bass !!
Bought it through Bass Central. If I’m correct, Skyline sales must go through a dealer. Bass Central was so cool. Worked with them before when I lived in Florida. My 44-01 was purchased in 2012 if I remember correctly. Came from Bass Central as well.
dilemma:
after playing my new Geezer for an hour or so, I get the dreaded "tendonitis in the left thumb" coming back to me after being away for several years. I've been away from Lakland for a while. So it's probably just the roundness of the Lakland back neck profile thing that set it off. I don't have this with my other basses. I probably will get used to it, but not if its a pain to play. I love everything else about the bass. poop. Now wondering if I should (1) reshape the neck (i'm confident I can do that), or (2) spin it back out into the market, because I won't be able to play it much.
what would you all do?

Noticed some Lakland Skyline 44-02's
with black stick on pickguard. Liked the look,just got one from the Lakland people. I have the pearl white,but like the black one also.

Sorry to hear that! The neck shape, width and depth on my 01/02 is my ideal neck!
if you like the bass enough, reshape it. If it’s not a keeper, back to the market.
I prefer the pearl white. Nice to have options. I got a Mint and Tortoise Shell for my 44-02.
Hey, I need some string advice for my 44-02. I currently have DR Sunbeams with 45-65-85-105 gauge. The E and A string are a bit boomier than the other strings. Would switching to 80-100 gauge on those strings reduce the boominess, say like D'Addario EXL170s which go 45-65-80-100
Are those Sunbeams nickel? I like SS strings. May give you a little more clarity down low, less boom? I like depth of tone with tight low end, especially when thumpin n pluckin!
Speaking of strings, I had the pleasure of playing several of JJ’s stellar basses today. A super SICK 55-94 with a awesome B string, 4-94 # 11, string as BEAD. ALL with different strings. ProSteels, EBMM Cobalt flats, awesome. I’m not a big flats guy but I’d use the Cobalt flats. I’m going to try the switch from Dunlop MM SS Super brites to Prosteel SS. Have had an issue with Dunlop SS E and A strings going dead VERY quickly. Has been discussed by others here on TB. Thanks JJ for the indulgence with your collection which contains some awesome basses not mentioned.
Would a little bit of kinesio tape on the thumb help? I use it sometimes after a mountainbike crash bent my thumb back. Supportive, but still flexy, so really comfortable.
A tip of the hat to ya, sir. On occasional days I'm not motivated to practice, it only takes a short minute with my Shark4 (#007) and I am grooving happily along, carefree and enjoying. I gotta love that !
Every Bass sits slightly differently on your body and hands. I would look at my strap height. A tiny adjustment in strap length can have a significant impact on the angles of your wrists on both hands. Look at the sideways and vertical angles of your wrists, you don’t want anything too extreme as far as the wrists are turned or twisted. Get someone to take a picture of your hands while you are in a playing position, it’s amazing what that can reveal. Adjust the strap a little and compare.
And, it’s okay to talk about how much you like my Serek Sacramento. Jake Serek honed his skills at Lākland before starting Serek Basses. His basses are very hot right now, appearing on tv in the hands of major pros.
There she is! That is one sexy bass! I don’t have a 5er, but that played and sounded sooo good, had me thinking about getting a 5er, which I don’t need right now. Bart pups sounded great. Makes you want to pick it up and play it. Was hard to put it down!
Agree! I was planning on gigging with it until I found the pot issue and then I got cold feet, worried it might lose sound mid song or something.
