I think you’re good with all those amazing 5 strings in your tool box. I have 1 Lākland 5, a disappointing import MTD 5, and a Wishbass 5 fretless. I think I need to keep my scarlet harlot.

You're probably right. I wouldn't let that one go for anything.

And I'm sorry to hear about the MTD as that is one I've been tempted to try as well.

It does. I had an old Korean 55-02 with Barts that I really liked but sold to help fund my initial 55-94 w/LH3 system (on the left) so when I came upon that one with the Barts at a price I couldn't refuse, I had to snatch it up (and then sell some other gear...). The beautiful BEM board was gravy. (the saturation is cranked WAAAAAAY up in this photo to show the quilting as they're both fairly subtle.)

dilemma:
after playing my new Geezer for an hour or so, I get the dreaded "tendonitis in the left thumb" coming back to me after being away for several years. I've been away from Lakland for a while. So it's probably just the roundness of the Lakland back neck profile thing that set it off. I don't have this with my other basses. I probably will get used to it, but not if its a pain to play. I love everything else about the bass. poop. Now wondering if I should (1) reshape the neck (i'm confident I can do that), or (2) spin it back out into the market, because I won't be able to play it much.
what would you all do?

Weird that it only happens with Lakies.

Maybe try a fiver ( ha)....the neck profile is shallower in my opinion...

And, it’s okay to talk about how much you like my Serek Sacramento. Jake Serek honed his skills at Lākland before starting Serek Basses. His basses are very hot right now, appearing on tv in the hands of major pros.

I would take my best feeling neck take that with the Lakland to a luthier and see if he can match it..

I have the same issue with thumb pain on some necks. For me it's when the neck profile is too shallow, so the Lakland neck really suits me.

I think reshaping the neck is a risky manouver. It's hard to predict whether or not it will have the desired effect, and if it doesn't, you've ruined the resale value of the bass

Wow! I guess I should be grateful. Doesn’t matter to me for the neck. Although I have my preferences, none of the neck profiles give any discomfort playing them.

Same story here. I think the honeyburst 55-02 looks infinitely better with a pickguard.

I just got a Lakland 55-01 I bought used here on the Talk Bass classifieds. First all, great bass that I'm really liking. One issue I'm noticing is the high end is a little brittle which I see a lot of others mentioning. I can run it in passive and use my Mesa Subway+ preamp pedal to do preamp duties. But it is at church where I play right now so I'll have to wait to try it. So I have a dumb question. Will the preamp still color my passive tone, or does it bypass the preamp completely in passive mode? Obviously, the passive tone doesn't have a tone control, so I'm still considering a John East Uni pre to help provide that, as I do miss the tone control rolloff I'm used to on other basses I have.

Greetings all.. 2003 55-94FL Deluxe owner since '07.
Anyone have a spec or source for saddle adjustment screws? Can't seem to ID anything in the wild. They got loc-tited by the prior owner. Soaking in naptha is helping a bit, but a couple are pretty stiff. Pretty sure all Lakland can supply is a complete bridge assy.
