If this was a 4 string, I’d be all over it. Was there such a beast? A 44-76?
Hey hey all, I have a Darryl Jones skyline model that I've been having trouble with. The g string keep popping out of the nut and I've been trying to solve it for awhile. I think I've boiled down the problem to the nut. It has a pretty sever taper across the width.
Any other DJ skyline owners here that can verify this is how the nut should look?

that second-to-last pic, the radius of the nut does not look equivalent to the radius of the neck. but it could be just an optical illusion. To me, it looks like a new nut would be needed to take care of the problem. I wouldn't try to raise the right (treble) side of the nut. but that's just my take after looking at the pics.
Just out of curiosity, what gauge strings are on the bass now?
Thanks. The nut is lower on the treble side. I initially thought this was how it was designed on the DJ sig model. This was the first bass I’ve ever purchased before playing and it’s been a disappointing experience, and I’m not quite sure if the skyline series has a lower build quality ( I understand they are only finished off in the us) or if this was just an out of qc part that did not get caught.
Man, that’s a great question. These are the original stings because I haven’t played it enough to warrant changing them. Feels like 45 to105, which is what I have on my other basses.

Thanks, I did buy it new on reverb and since I'm in the great lakes area, they shipped it to me directly instead of shipping it to the dealer first. I've been in touch with [email protected] but have not received any definitive answers via email other than "bring it by", which is difficult with my day job schedule. Which is why I'm now crowdsourcing. 
If it's new they should fix it for you under warranty.

It's about 2 years old at this point and I've spent more time trying to fix the issue than actually playing it. I'll more than likely have to bite the bullet and take the trip into Chicago.
How far of a drive is it for you?
The factory is kind of a cool place to be so you could get a great tour while you're there.
I would love to go down there, and it's not that far respectively, just more of a time mismatch issue when their shop is open and I have the availability to drive into the city.

Ya I don't like the way that nut looks at all, I think Lakland would replace it. If you can't take it there in person, and have a different bass to play in the meantime, I'd contact Lakland and send it in using UPS or whatever. If they cover shipping, better to do it and have it %100 from there on down the line. Good luck !
P.S., curious does anyone now if Lakland covers shipping on warranty repairs?
I have an 82' Aria Pro II than feels like home bass, but it's a totally different animal that my younger self loved, I'm really getting into jazz style basses now because they feel soooo nice and have all the tones. Also much lighter.

Had the 01 set in the kitchen for a time whilst I cleaned my practice area, and the house lion gave it a thorough going over. I think he mostly wanted to chew on the leather strap. Must have some cool smells trapped in it.
