Cool, thanks for the clarification. It seems that I've pretty much fixed it by adding some solder, but there is still some excess buzz when the treble is boosted. I'll try running another wire and see what happens. Thanks for the help!

Not a problem at all, glad to help. You may just be getting some high freq. noise. Does it do it if the eq is flat? Does it only do it when you boost the treble? Most of the basses i have owned had a little noise if i boosted the treble...

Me too, but this is different because when I boost the treble with just the MM pickup selected there's the normal hiss, but with the J pickup it's a louder buzz that diminishes when I touch any metal, indicating a ground problem. I just finished a 3 hour practice though and the bass was kicking a** the entire time! The original problem is solved and the rest really isn't that bad. Thanks for all the help everyone.

You should be good with using the same guage wire. Just run attach one end to the copper and the other to the neg. of the output jack. Don't unsolder the original ground and you are using the copper as a conductor between the two instead of just running the orig neg to the jack. make sense?
what I think "ground paint" means, is indeed graphite spraypaint used for shielding and grounding. It looks like matte darkgrey covering on the walls of the preamp department and, to the extent of my memory, is used on Skyline and Shoreline series whereas US basses are shielded with copper foil. So, if that is what you have, you may want to buy one can and spray the paint under the neck pickup making sure there's no border between this and the other shielded/grounded area.

I got it figured out by running a ground from the copper foil sticker to the output jack ground terminal. Also added a little solder to the ground of the neck pickup. Thanks for the help though.
