Lakland PJ hum?

Hi, just received a USA classic 44-64 brand new and I noticed it has some hum going on with volume and treble up! Goes away when touching strings, is this normal? I just payed quite a bit for it, so I would like to know, I feel a expensive bass should not do this!

Yup, stock J is single coil. Does it go away when the P is soloed?

My USA Classic 44-64 does the same. Get some copper shielding tape and shield the pickup cavities and inside of the pickguard - it helped mine a lot.

I had the same problem with my 44-64 PJ. The hum was so bad from the single coil J pickup that I couldn't use it. The P pickup was quiet. I ended up putting in Nordstrand humcancelling PJ set. Now it is super quiet.
