Lakland Thunderbird?

it is the same exact bass as the lakland fenderbird, but it has chi's , and thats my final answer pause it at 2:14

Almost. Except I am sure that the fingerboard has fret markers and the prototype LaklandBird has a plain maple fretboard. Everything else looks similar though.

When I paused it in a few spots it sure looked like fret markers to me.
I shot an email to Brian @ Lakland to see if he can give me any info on it. I will let you know what I find out.
Good idea, Johnny. I would also like to know, I have been through this thread since the beginning. Its definitely some kinda 'Bird.

Wouldn't be surprised if he had them do some ultra-custom work. He had them do a pair of 35" scale BEAD basses in the 4-94 pup/control configuration a few years back. I have one of them now.
Brian got back to me and is getting more info. I also took a screenshot of a higher definition video and it 100% has fret markers and also the body contours look a little different than the prototype bird. IMO it is a second LaklandBird.

I heard that John was working with Lakland right before he died. I have no verification on this.

your right, i couldnt see them on the crappy youtube video, that is a different bass all together, that one looks to have a pickgaurd also.i wonder how hard it would be to get lakland to make me one

This bass was to be a tribute to John’s custom Fenderbirds, but when John died the project was canceled. This is the prototype, briefly owned by Steve Barr, and now owned by private collector.
Measurements for this prototype were taken from a Gibson Thunderbird I would borrow from my friend’s store whenever my Alembic was being repaired. The bass was sent to Lakland for this project."
