Skylines are great basses, US Laklands are perfect.
Engine207 said:Third...I went to Lakland a couple of Chicago trips ago, and Carl had me try a bunch of basses. Saying the Korean Skylines are not too far down the road from the Americans isn't taking anything away from the more expensive US instrument, only speaking to how nice the Skyline counterpart is. My Duck is Korean, strung with some nice Chrome flats. I actually passed on a couple of Indonesians before I found it. Other than the original, white pickguard, I couldn't be happier with it.
How much does your Duck weight? Mine is heavier than I would like. I heard most Skylines are heavier in general.
I agreed about there being little difference in the mix..that is where my next point came in......In the mix a Squier Precision can sound similar to a Fender Custom shop model. The differences at that point are quality of wood, finish, playability, etc. That is where the differences will show in the Lakland US vs Skyline as well. I can tell the difference in a US Lakland neck vs a Skyline neck easily. The question is if those differences are worth it to any one person as an individual. There seems to be alot of blanket statements here when I think ti really is a personal decision. To some people those differences are worth alot where other people will say the differences are so minor they don't matter. Tone sitting in the mix and headstock logo are really only part of the equation.
I don't really notice any difference. I've had both US and Skyline. I know they use Carbon rods in the US necks, but in terms of tone and feel there isnt a ton of difference. I think the biggest difference is attention to detail(better wood, lighter weight, etc). I have only had the Hollowbody in the Skyline version and it was a smokin bass, but for whatever reason(GAS etc) I got rid of it. Kind of regret it...
