Hey everyone. I know the Larsson is growing in popularity and I just wanted to know your thoughts about it. Do you like it? How would you rate it on a difficulty scale from 1-10? A good piece for recitals and performances? What does it showcase on the bass in your opinion? And any other comments you'd like to share about it. I happen to have taken a liking to it and I think many people will.

The concertino ranks as one of my favorite double bass concertos. The second movement is very beautiful. If you haven't already, check out the recording by Daniel Marillier on his CD "Le Chant De La Contrebasse". I also like the recording by Hakan Ehren that is on the collection of the twelve concertinos released by BIS, but I prefer the recording by Marillier which sounds more refined and more relaxed.
It's good. I say it is just above the Koussevitzky in difficulty. If the Koussevitzky is a 6.9 I say its grade is probably a 7.0-7.4.
bottesini 2 is a killer. id give it at least an 8. but ya ive seen the videos and I think its an amazing concerto, definitely one to blow away a panel of judges if performed well
If i'm not mistaken the Dragonetti is a 6 Koussevizky is a 6.9 Bottesini No.2 is a 9.2 and Bottesini No.1 is a 9.4.
These concerti are only as difficult as you make them. Yes, Bottesini is difficult, that's basic math, but if you go into it thinking "Oh my God, this is a '9.4'!", then you'll shy away from it. If your thinking is "I'll leave this up to the pros", then you've already given up.

i also like the fact that it's not too popular and not considered a standard yet its up and coming in the world of bass. i think if it is to be performed, it would wow any audience.
One thing that I like about it is the fact that you can easily prepare all 3 movements for a concert. All three of the movements put together are just a little longer than some single movements of standard concerti.
