Laserlight tapes and CDs

Does anyone remember this line of budget classical music? I always wondered how they were able to sell the music so cheaply.

I wonder if they just recorded lesser known orchestras.

Most of the Laser Light recordings were from university or government funded orchestras or recordings that were funded by the individual artists or composer. In other cases the sources were alternative or discarded tracks with sound or performance issues.
I know several people that had releases on Laser Light, they rarely made any money but were 'paid' in boxes of CDs that they could sell at performances, lectures or other events.
