2x Peavey 4x10's. Great cabs affordable. And when one cab blows you still have the other one. Put the working one on top and you still have a great monitoring situation.
Ampeg is the most reliable and best looking stuff! I have never played Berg's but if you want to at least look pro, go Ampeg! haahaa
You know I used to think that same thing. Then I stood in front of a fEARful 1515/66 and realized the 810 was a smaller, gentler animal.
Not in my experience but to each their own. If you're talking about the dark sounding OSB 810's, I would agree.
My thought is its better to have to much than not enough - I think it comes from my boy scout days be prepared.
All of the cab recs sound awesome, but I'm really looking to buy and not rent. Also, my local shop owner is setting me up with a payment plan and since he's childhood friends with my parents, he won't expect payment when I'm on the road. The guy is a nice person.
But I'm leaning towards the Berg 610 over the (2) Gk 410's. Can anyone steer me otherwise? I'm afraid the 610 might not be enough, but what on earth do I know. I'm easily persuaded, that's probably why I feel I need an 810. I know the Ampeg 810 is rad looking and sounds great, it's just too large for me. If I go the 810 route, it will be (2) 410 cabs.
I also like the idea of the (2) 410's. These cabs are compact, sealed and super light. Also, when I play smaller gigs, I can just drag one around with me.

The 610 should be pretty road worthy and loud enough with a SVT-7 for most large gigs?
That head and cab will be enough for ANY large gig. You aren't going to play a huge festival, arena, large theater/club with out a PA. As your personal monitor, it is more than you will ever need.

I really like the GK 410mbe as well. Maybe down the road I will pick up a 4ohm one to use for the practice space/local gigs.
When a bandmate calls me 8pm on a Wednesday and asks if I want to play a gig that we go on at 10, I'll be more willing with a 45 pound cab.

You want the Ampeg because it looks cool and sounds rad, but don't want the weight. The Berg gets louder, is 42lbs lighter, and looks cool and sounds rad as well.
I've owned the Berg and 4x10 cabinets. The Berg is far easier to maneuver, even with the added weight. It tilts and rolls like a dolly or hand truck. Curbs, door thresholds, steps, etc., are no problem. Rocks on the sidewalk are no problem. Way easier to get into a truck because you can just tilt it back onto the tailgate and slide it in...whereas you have to dead-lift a 4x10 to do the same thing. You can walk standing upright instead of hunched over.
Road-worthy? I'm not sure what you mean. It's not bullet-proof, what cabinets are? But it got through my gigs with no sweat. I've seen enough shredded Ampeg 810's to know that I'd never want to have the tolex touch any surface. If I bought an Ampeg 810, it would be with the understanding that the tolex will rip on the way out of the music store.

In-ears are the in-ear wireless headphone monitors that many bands use these days.
"in ears" are in ear monitors.
I second the notion for road cases. I spend a good deal of time on the road and my gear would be destroyed were it not for road cases. I highly recommend them.
