"in ears" are in ear monitors.
I second the notion for road cases. I spend a good deal of time on the road and my gear would be destroyed were it not for road cases. I highly recommend them.

...and about in ears, if you are using them, and they are high quality, you won't hear your cab on stage, it'll just be for looks.
Regarding the OP: if there's plenty of room, I'd probably get the Ampeg 810 - if not, I'd go with the Berg 610... IME, it's better to have too much rig than not enough - nothing worse than not being able to hear yourself well enough, or breaking your gear because you're pushing it too hard...

Might I be better with the (2) Gk MBE's with road cases?
Like I said, tone isn't as much of an issue,. My band is pretty lo-fi and I'm not very picky with tone. I also trust Gk, much more than Ampeg.

Yes, get the NV610, It's super loud and will carry most any club gig without PA support. I'm constantly amazed how well I can still hear myself even while playing from the opposite side of the stage.
Its tone might not impress you all that much playing solo, but when you hear how it blends with your band you'll realise why so many guys here have recommend it for years and years.
It's also a very 'plug in and play cab', and does an amazing job on boomy-sounding stages where many other cabs would distract your playing and have you fiddling with your amps tone knobs all night.

One of the nice things about the newer model Ampeg 810's is that it has separate inputs so that you can just use the top 4 if it is overkill at a smaller venue.
And, it would be closer to your ears than a 410 sitting on the floor when used that way.

I DO want the berg, I want the berg to handle all types of venues, the price of the cab is going to set me back a few decades. But from what I'm reading, well worth it!

I would go with the ampeg 8X10. they are plentiful on the used market, there are plaenty of "aftermarket" cases, there are lots of repair shops that can help in need of repair and they are the industry standard. You won't go wrong with it on tour.

I've done it - and IME, one large cab is much less hassle to deal with than 2 smaller ones...

If smaller cabs were the best way to go everyone would be toting around a series of 110's and stacking them all up.
Different folks have different needs. Personally I like having one cab that I can roll into place.
