"Latest Supporting Member" box

I'm just curious how that "latest supporting member" box on the left side of the screen works? My membership expired a day or two ago, and I subscribed again today. So why am I still seeing somebody else's name and avatar in that box that has been there for a day or two, when that person obviously isn't the "latest supporting member"?

I really don't care either way. I'm just curious as to how it operates.

I get the impression it's new supporting members only - not renewals...?

I've renewed many, many times but have never been in that box as I am not a new supporter!

I never made it there when I first joined, either.

it's a manual process. Obviously many members join/renew [edit]each day, so it's really just luck as to whether you make it up there.
