Lava Cables - All talk

I apologize for the rant, but sometimes you have to get a little Tasmanian.

I ordered from Lava Cables a month ago for a specific gig. They said they could probably get me the cables by the gig date. No dice.

I call back and they say that they will ship out soon. They are very apologetic.

Two weeks fly by. My band is about to leave on our Middle Earth tour(OK,KS,NE,CO,NM), so I call again. This time I get a younger guy with a tone of voice is kind of peeved sounding- not at me, but at the situation. He says he will check out the issue although he deals with retailers more than one-off orders. I get an email stating that this time they are definitely going to hurry to get the cables out the door.

I heard that one of the guys at Lava Cables has a dubious reputation in terms of his market behavior, but I did not think that was enough to warrant not purchasing from them.

I still have not received any of the cables, but I have received a G&G case, various Ebay items, and custom knobs from Hong Kong after ordering from Lava Cables.

So, in effect, I simply want to open a sounding wall for cases like these to be heard, so maybe Lava Cables will listen and a fire will lite under their keisters.

If everyone else has had pleasant dealings with them, perhaps I am just unfortunate and my products are just on backorder- but in such cases I should be notified.

Ok. I'm done.

Why don't you just go down to your local music store and get some cables?

+1.
My Lava purchase went quite smoothly, but in the end, any decent cable w/quality components is as good as the next. If I was touring, I'd be looking at Conquest or Whirlwind. Quality stuff and affordable enough to grab backups.

Really? You bought from him? Serious? I haven't been around for awhile, what changed? Weren't you heavily involved with the original Chi town cable testing?

This is the first I've heard negatively toward Lava.... Where'd you hear of this dubious reputation? I know several pro's who have had nothing but positive comments to share.

You've got me man.

Sarcasm?

Actually not. Can you point me to something I'm unaware of?

If they're crummy, help us out.

;)

I'm not saying they're crummy...just the guy has a less than stellar reputation over at the HC bass forum for telling everyone that they deaf and stupid. Maybe something has changed since this was done, but I haven't heard anything different.

I'm not sure if I can link to another forum, but here goes:
Link Removed

If it's not ok, I'll take it down...

I see lots of references in the thread of LavaMan, but his posts must have been removed.

I'll register and see what I find.

Cliffs:

-Bassists wanted to know if there was a noticeable difference in tone of different brands of cable
-They wanted to know if more expensive cables were better
-L^vaman was extremely helpful in giving a group of bassists a few different cables to try out at no cost
-L^va figured he would make a lot of sales after everyone noticed a night and day difference
-Group of well known and helpful formites get together and devise a simple and accurate testing method
-Testing commences
-No differences were found between expensive and cheap cable (Van Den Hul versus Whirlwind among others)
-L^va flips out and tells all testers they are deaf
-Formites stick to their guns
-L^va belittles, picks on, name calls, etc.

Plenty of people still buy his cable. He does make a good product. Plenty of people say there is a difference in tone. Is it a good difference? I don't know. Is there even a difference? I don't know. I just don't want to give business to a person that acts that way publicly to a huge group of people that would be their target audience.
