LB76 purchase

Hey TBers,

I've recently come across a Carvin LB76 (neck-thru) on my local CL postings. It's a gorgeous bass and it's going for $300 only because the nut at the top of the truss is stripped/broken. How easily is this fixed? If it won't cost too much, then I'll pull the trigger and buy it.

What do you think?

I would expect a couple hundred bucks at least. Unless the Carvin is recent and has a ton of upgrades it will not be worth much more than $500. Old Carvins are not sought after basses for the most part. I would keep looking if it was me, unless this turns out to be somewhat desirable you will be into it for more than it is worth.

If it is just a stripped nut, it might not be a big deal. Remove the old nut, install a new one. The tricky part would be the "remove the old nut" part. On the other hand, if the truss rod is damaged, it could be far more complicated. Without being able to get it evaluated by a competent repair shop, you are looking at a $300 roll of the dice.

Of course, I could be wrong.
