Welding is also a very quick way to get a sun tan or sun burn. Long sleeved top and gloves ideally.

Before you think 'nice! I can top up my tan while I metal work' it will give you a really uneven tan.

Thanks, I'm pretty excited to see it done too.

So I started cutting out the interior of the lower portion of the pickup covers. Here's the jig I used on the drill press.

Now I just have to connect the dots.

Next build, I am going to use a standard size pickup, with either covers I can buy, or make from wood. This metal working business is a lot of work. And the "metal dust" is a lot pointier than saw dust.

Don't the Beatles sing about sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun, if the sun don't come you get a tan from sitting in the English rain?

The metal work would have been easier if I was only doing one pickup...

I finished potting the other two pickups. The potting went better, though the winding did not. It seems I had the guides set too far apart, and a few of the windings went a little awry. They seem to work though, measuring about 10.5k ohms. I'll most likely wind the third so all three are set up the same. I have enough wire.

I think also part of the problem is I went a little aggressive on the magnet diameter at 3/8". I found some 1/4" x 1/2" alnico's which I may go ahead and order, and wind another set. I'll see how ambitious I am.

Delano uses 3/8" magnets for their pickups, IIRC. Wonder how those Ric pups would sound with the massive magnets.

The Classic Amplification Pickups I have also use 3/8" magnets. They sound great.

Why didn't you repot the first one when your wax was hot?

I'll wind another one that will match the slightly wider configuration of the other two. I'm not sure what I'll do with the first one yet.

If you are going to go with colour, I agree that some sort of sunburst would be best. Especially if its one that lets some of the grain (especially that mahogany) through.

Maybe you should get some actual oak leaves to be painted into the finish? Kind of like that starburst effect with gold leaf in it.
