Google is your friend with this issue. When I first started this project, I spent some time tracking down all the information I could about the RIC basses. It takes some time, but there's a lot of information out there. The dimensions are actually listed right on the Rickenbacker website.

I bought a set of plans from an English supplier called JAG Guitars (John Anthony Guitars) , but didn't find them particularly accurate, and missing some crucial dimensions. Might be good enough for your purposes. Australian Luthier Supply used to sell plans until the Ricpolice shut them down, but you may find a set if you dig deep enough. There are a few open-source CAD drawings floating around, also only roughly accurate. There is at least one company that still sells full sized MDF templates, pretty pricey at around $65.00 (Didn't you use them Maple?) Ric has been pretty effective at quashing accurate plans for public sale, but I don't think its a problem creating your own for personal use from public images.

I use the BigPrint program: http://woodgears.ca/bigprint/

You load a picture in it, pick two points, punch in the desired distance between them and the drawing will be scaled to it.

Here's a Ric scaled to 14" on the lower bout. The squares are 0.5"

The highest resolution , most parallax free images I've seen are of the new 4003w walnut version, lots of copies of those images floating around online, so I assume they are public domain. PM me if you want a copy. The PDF showing the headstock, body, and pickguard isnt too accurate, but given how much variation there is in Rick basses, it may not matter to you.

Did you make this bass? Very nice! I'm a big fan of the clear-plexi with gold base pg (shape based on the 1st Ric bass from the late 50's) Also, the Schaller bridge is a big improvement over the Ric bridge and the pu placement looks better too.

Post 776 on page 39 has a sound clip. It's with all 3 pickups at full volume. The pickups are spaced pretty close together, so there's less variation than one might expect, but it does a nice spread from a Jazz to a Precision. At some point, I suppose I should do a better clip. With the strings broken in now, it's much less "Rickish" and more "Precisionish".

And while I'm thinking of it, an old RIC 481 guitar appeared on the local Craig's List a little while ago.

They want way too much for it - originally listed for $2,500, now $2,200, especially for a guitar that's pretty much unplayable from the reports I have heard, but it did get me thinking about my next build. It would be major cool to have a matching 6 string.

We'll see...

edited to add, a Carvin neck through guitar neck would be $220.00, onlays $300, hardware about $300.00, pickup covers another $100, plus odds and ends, total might be around a grand or so...

I bought a nice set of plans from Argentina? Went to google translate and put in different search phrases to translate into Spanish and I found the plans that way. They are the plans that were selling out of Australia (the British plans are not good).

Do you have a link or contact you are willing to share? I have had a lot of trouble determining a handful of details, would like to get some accurate plans.
