I suppose one could install a treble bleed volume. Working on the pickguard is easy and these lots of room under there.

The input pad on my amps does well and I don’t seem to notice and hf loss, but probably depends on the particulars of the attenuator in there.

I’d try the pad first because it’s fast and free.
And lowering the pickups should also help significantly (also free).

after that more invasive…

If you actually spend a lot of time with your basses volume knob turned down, you need a treble bleed on there to retain your high end. That's why there's a "loss of character" @klattman, without a treble bleed you lose a lot of high end when turning down the volume pot.

One way to get a brighter tone (besides using a better tool for the job - a different bass) would be to add series/parallel switching for each pickup. Parallel will be a bit thinner, clearer, brighter. I think others have reported that the pickups are four-wire, so you should be able to do the mod.

I am aware of compressors for sure. And I do have other basses for brighter tones so not looking for that at all. Thank you for the suggestions though. The volume pedal may be a good option.

I think it is one of the closest of Fender's closest match to the original Sherwood Green Metallic. My guitarist friend had one of the earliest of the XII's & it was SGM with a matching headstock. The metallic "float" in the finish was similar to my 1965 Ice Blue Metallic Jazz Bass. My friend's SGM darkened rather quickly due to the nitro clear coat yellowing with aging rapidly in smokey clubs...but the Squier looks like his as a new one.

My Squier Sherwood Green Rascal and my MIM Sherwood Green PJ Mustang look quite a bit different from one another. I love them both though and I have no clue as to which one is more authentic???

WELP that seals it folks, big pinky incoming.

There's a used one for sale local to me for $400, dude wouldn't budge on the price.

Played a black one at GC that was hefty and neck divey on my lap, but the tone is unique and I love shell pink, so at this price it's a no-brainer. That tort guard is gonna go ASAP. Debating mint or aged pearloid. Will likely upgrade the tuners to Ultralites or Resolites to alleviate some of the dive.

The age old question remains, though:

What strings are you all liking on your Rascals?
