LEARNING SONGS

Hi all,
How does a band learn to play cover songs? timing changes from verse to chorus etc.
The drummer who I play with does the same as me were we play a long to cds.
Do we have to break each part of the song down to bars and count?
We normally Know when to change to chorus in a song because we recognise where we are in the songdue to the singer on the cd.

The method that works for us is just to practice individually along with the tune until it goes well enough to rehearse it with the group. I've found no short-cuts other than structure- and cheat-sheets to help with the rehearsing.

BTW, You might want to type without the caps-lock on, it doesn't bother me, but I'll bet there's others that it will....

advice:

don't use capslock
use periods
use paragraphs.
It's very hard to force myself to read through that otherwise...

also,
try memorizing it instead of playing along with the disc.

+1 to everything above.

It can be tricky to play without vocals, but it's also very good exercise for the group. At the same time, don't be afriad to invite a friend who's an aspiring singer (dont we all know a couple?) to show up and butcher his way through a few tunes. It can help the band out tremendously, and give your friend some valuable experience.
