I've taken to solid, as you can get it to bend into tighter places and it holds a bend tighter.

Another thing to consider, if you get serious about building effects from scratch, is your sources for parts. There are several good online suppliers of harder to find pedal hardware like switches and wah wah parts. For electronic components Radio Shack sucks. (Years ago it was fairly good.) Try Mouser Electronics, Digikey, Newark Electronics and other online distributors. You can pay $3 for a transistor at the Shack, or get the same for 12 cents from one of these guys. If you need 6 values of resistors, 4 capacitors, an IC and a couple of transistors for a project, you'll already have saved way more than the cost of shipping.

I've been getting in to building my own effects too. I would recommend getting a kit from BYOC or General Guitar Gadgets if you're just starting out. The kits have all the parts and instructions you need. Byoc has a great forum and you can find info about GGG kits at the diystompboxes.com forum. You can also find mod suggestions (i.e. for bass) at both those sites but you should build it stock first so trouble shooting any problems will be easier. I would highly recommend learning to solder before starting a complex build such as delay or chorus. Actually you should learn the basics of soldering before building anything. I've found the number 1 reason for a pedal not working correctly is bad soldering. Start with something simple like a fuzz face or dod 250. So far I've successfully built the byoc chorus, ggg lpb-1 clone, ggg tubescreamer clone. All of which are being used by my guitar player who can't afford to buy pedals. They really do sound as good as pedals 3 times the cost. Once you get into it, it becomes almost more addictive than just buying effects. Especially when you start to figure out what's going on because then you can build to your own needs. Hope that helps.
