Double Bass Leave the Dyn-B mounted?

For those Dyn-B users past and present, do (did) you leave it mounted all the time? I've been taking mine off and on, but lately have wondered about how long before I get an open in the wire. The other side of the question is, after time, will that green stuff leave a permanent "O" on the top of my bass?

I have found that if I leave mine on too long, the green stuff gets gooey and I think it loses contact. I noticed last night that the sound was kind of thuddy, so I took it off and remounted it with fresh green stuff and it was much better.

The green stuff will absolutely not harm your finish. They put it through rigorous tests so it would not damage much better instruments than we have (like Art Davis' Hill Bass).
