Lee Sklar gear?

I was wondering what he was playing with James Taylor? I know that it might not be his favorite gig, I read some earlier posts that had some insight into his love for fusion... anyways I am a simpleton and dig his work on Your Smilin' Face.
What is it besides his sweet, sweet hands making that tone?
I am new to the bass tone quest so feel free to call me an idiot if it is a simple setup haha!
Thanks in advance,
Patrick

I have a (now discontinued) VHS video tape of a 1979 James Taylor concert in upstate NY.

Leland is playing a very early version of a Yamaha Broad Bass. It was a neck through 4 string with the reversed split pickup. It looked to be a prototype of what Yamaha first marketed in 1980 as the "Yamaha Broad Bass". In 1982 Yamaha expanded on the line and offered the BB-2000, BB-1200S and the BB400.
