Left Hand Pinky Retracting? Not anymore!

I used to either skip using my pinky and used my ring finger, or when I used a finger per fret, my pinky used to always retract. I’ve seen this happen to others, it seems not so efficient so after a bit of a hiatus from bass I came back with focus on fixing that wandering pinky.

basically I had a lot of tension in my fingers, and my pinky would retract and sort of lock into rigamortus. To fix this I use a combo of stretching and massage. But what really works for me is moving the tension from my pinky out of my finger and focusing it on the joint where the pinky meets the palm. It’s sort of an active stretch at first, as my hands were tight tight. But now the knuckle which I spoke of is firmly in place, and the pinky can move easily and then relax properly without retracting.

this may not make sense or may not work for you, but know that it can be done. Feels great now.
