Since Epi won't make us a lefty, I found my candidate Jack Casady bass to "flip". It's a black, "road worn", 2001 MIK (Peerless factory). I'm good with drilling the holes and moving everything over to the other side. I have a tapered auger and some tapered maple plugs to fill the old holes I should be able to fill and level the plugs OK.
My questions are on finishing. I'm assuming the finish is poly-something. It would be great to just spray over the repair areas, but I'm guessing it will be better to do the whole top and scrape the binding.
StewMac has the nitro rattle cans and the bulk waterbase acrylic. I have a compressor and an auto-type spray gun that I've used. Would I be OK using the nitro lacquer over the poly (compatibility and adhesion)? I'm guessing there would be no problem with the acrylic over the poly? Could I just use acrylic auto-type spray cans?
Looking for suggestions and any advice. Recommended surface prep on the current finish to get good adhesion? I'm not expecting perfection, the bass is well used and it will just be a player. I just want it to look decent. I've built kits before but I've only used the Wudtone rub-on finishes on them.
