Yep. It's flippin' roasting over here! I've got a baseball practice in the morning, too. I should be nicely sunburned by noon tomorrow (I'm very pale-complexioned).
I'm seriously contemplating a complete re-spray since I am not pleased with a couple of recent things, but as long as the heat is like this I will likely have to wait. It is more humid than the weather screenshot says — it's pretty muggy and uncomfortable right now to say the least.
Unfortunately, no progress. I had an issue with the clear coat and just the overall finish, and my paint area needed to be broken-down for some science projects for my two sons, so I decided to put a hold on the project for a minute. I also want to get some fresh and positive juju on this thing, as it had been pretty frustrating up to the point of my most recent progress. It seemed like whenever I took a step forward, I took two back. I just needed to chill for a minute.
I'm starting back up this week (/late this week), and a goal of mine is to have all of the finishing done before I go back to work in early January. I think the plan right now is to remove all of the clear coat, put another coat of color on it, then re-spray the clear again.

I have had a few moments running out of reranch paint in the past and wanted to pull my hair out. That stuff is expensive and having to re order ruins your momentum (mostly mental). I have since learned that Duplicolor auto lacquer is good stuff if you aren't after an exact Fender color. I did this partscaster with their lacquer for the color coats.
Like you, I also return to work in January (wife and I have a newborn daughter) and am trying to make the most of a little downtime time building a jazz bass (which is delayed fixing my own mistakes and waiting on parts at the moment).

Figured life got in the way (in a good way of course!) and yes, spraying finishes is quite frustrating. A bit of distance can be good to reassess and recharge. Look forward to seeing it all together when it happens.

You really hit the nail on the head as far as the frustration thing goes in terms of when you run out of paint. Talk about a momentum-sucker. Shipping from that place is sooooo slow! I am trying to make this one somewhat of a "period piece" by paying homage to certain design elements and characteristics, although of course with my own spin on it to make it mine. One of those is the paint — I really want the paint to be something that is authentic. I don't even know why really at this point; I just figured it was kind of the right thing to do. My next bass (ha) will be 100% my own and I'll get paint that is less expensive, ships faster, and all of those nice attributes that I seek without the compromise of quality.
PS — that Strat color is pretty awesome. I like that a lot. Nice choice!
Thanks. This is going to be a killer axe when it's all said and done. I have high expectations of my work, so that is a humongous part of why this is taking so long. I really want it to be very nice — so nice that only an expert would be able to tell that it wasn't a factory/professional paint job. To be honest, I'd like to be able to sneak it by an expert, too, but I don't necessarily think that's something for which I need to strive on this one. I believe that is an attainable goal eventually, but I have been able to curb my expectations a little bit since I first set sail on this project.
Thanks. You know I'll knock this one out of the park! The recharge was certainly needed. I am motivated and available now, so the only thing that's going to get in my way is me being rusty with the rattle can.
I'm still contemplating a lower-cost HVLP sprayer, too. I haven't ruled that out.
I agree a great finish is definitely achievable, if a little painful in the process.

Nice. Yeah, I think that might be Verdine White of Earth, Wind, and Fire. His and Larry Graham's basses are really cool looking in my eyes.
