Hi fellows! Someone asked to me which FLATWOUND strings set would fit his parts-J Bass (Vintage Mod J body/90s Squier P neck). I suggested to him to buy an extra long scale set or thu body strings set. Calling lefties friends, please help!
Regular long strings for that Squier will do. That's a top-loading string bridge, so no need for longer scale. And since I'm a big fanboy, yes, I will suggest some GHS Precision flatwound strings - they'll work on either top-load or string-through.
I found this. Maybe someone would need this info too. http://www.labella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/LaBellaBassScaleGuide.pdf
I've had a VM 70s with the GHS strings. Once the neck relief and other parts of the setup was done, absolutely no problems. I've found D'Aaddario Chromes banana-ed the neck. The GHS remain supple, IMHE...
They are quite high tension. I had them on a Nate Mendel neck and couldn’t get the bow out. They are nice strings though.
No they're not. Precision Flats and Bass Boomers are almost the same tension on 45-105 sets: 184.6 vs 186.5 pounds.
GHS Precision Flats are always a good choice. Medium tension and good flexibility. I've got five years on this set. Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats
