LEJ Club???

Really??? That seems like it would give way to much treble...maybe not though?
Depends on the gig. If I'm sharing backline with someone who shows up with a 2x12 and a 15 and no horn, and it's a jazz tone, I may roll the bal down to the bridge, and roll some of the treble up to make up for the frequencies I'm used to hearing that their rig may not be producing as loudly (or at all). It's very much a mix issue -- if you have a relatively transparent rig, and you crank the treble up without doing anything else, it'll sound like a$$ for sure; but the treble (and the bass for that matter) adjustment on the LEJ pre's are basically there to be powerful tools - once you're used to how sensitive they are, you'll wonder how you ever got along without them. As far as the people that ride with them both cranked all the way up, IMHO they seem to get that really great 'shiny new string infinite punch' tone that a lot of us really love (sort of early Stanley Clarke meets Mark King) that's really great for solo spots, slapping, etc, but to my mind it sounds best alone - for blending in a rock band (which is what I have to do), flat with tiny adjustments is the way to go. :)

Good point! I'm with you though, mostly a quarter turn boost int the bass and leave the treble flat gets me where I wanna go.

On another note I'm gassing for an LEJ to go with my LEPJ! I'm thinking candy apple pj with a tort guard and maple board? :)

Maple board on an LEJ (fretted) is soooo good!!! I had Brian remove the gloss on the back of mine, and sometimes I'll just reach over and touch it while we're all downstairs watching tv; I think my wife is jealous... I think the next thing for me will be an LEJ-5 fretless -- Brian had a nice one with a cocobolo board that someone was trying to sell on TB recently - when I told him about it, he tried to go buy it back, but the dude changed his mind and kept it.

If any of you guys are anywhere near Murfreesboro, you really owe it to yourself to stop in to the Low End sometime and take a look around. Besides the Low End's, there are Buenevente's, Ritters, 64 Jazz's, Alembics, Lull's, Roscoe's, etc just hanging on the walls, and it's fine to just grab something and fire it up. It's got the best vibe of any bass shop I've ever been in. :)

Please count me in Cesar.

I just recently got an LEJ, so I am still working to find out what's under the hood. But, last night I was soloing the neck pickup, and was playing very close to the bridge, and the bass sounded like a fretless, with a lot of growl. I thought I was hearing things. The neck on these basses are quite extraordinary.

I just returned from band rehearsal. My observation so far are as follows: while sitting directly in front of the speaker (Bergantino HT Er 1x12) everything was clean and fat. I had both pick up volumes all of the way up, bass boosted just past center dent and treble flat. What i don't know is how it sounded from across the room. My amp was a Epifani 902C. When we played the Chicken, a Jaco tune, I soloed the rear pickup, and boy did that axe burp like crazy. What settings have you seasoned LEJ players used when playing in an R&B band. What cuts through the mix? I am filming a video next week and want to used the LEJ. Of course I want my tone to be killer. I will be playing smooth jazz, what better axe to play in that genre of music that a "jazz" bass. Right?

I usually play with bass boost about the same as you do. I may roll the treble back a lil pass center. My tone knob usually sits in the middle or a lil above. I like warm fat! If I need to thump, just turn treble up. Also, may boost bass at the same amount I turn treble up.

Yeah I usually do about the same...bass boosted a tad, treble flat, tone mostly up, usually both pups, maybe a tad more of the bridge pup if I want it to cut through a little better
Nearly the same -- I had Brian mod mine to vol/pan - Jazz is pan to the bridge about 20%, nitti a little more, Jaco 80% or more back. The more towards the bridge pup I go, the more likely I am to bump the bass knob a little (and a little goes a loooong way on a LEJ, as you know), and maybe roll the treble off a tiny bit. For more P-bass/classic rock stuff, I pan to the neck pup about 20%-30%, and flat the eq all together.

You sure can get a lot of sounds out of this thing. :)

Got my new (to me) LEJ yesterday. It's am older one....I'm think around 2005? Sounds awesome though. Pups are in the 70's position which is cool. The neck profile is also a bit chunkier than the newer models but nothing i cant live with. It also turns out it does have the current pre in it which was a nice bonus. Does anyone know how the older benevente pups differ from the current ones?

Francisco 's bass has the normal LEJ dual coil slim and 2 band setup.

The Old LEJ's with 70's position some came out super early with Benavente 3 band prior to my mods I made creating the LEJ 2 band which now I also offer the 2/3 band eq switch still different from the higher mid position Benavente 3 band pre and also lower output.

Brian, and the rest of the LEJ family, please excuse my ignorance, but Brian, will you explain the difference between 2 band and 3 band. I hear the tonal difference, but what exactly is taking place electronically?
