what effect is les claypool using in his newest album "Of Fungi And Foe". more specifically on the song amanitas.

it is really weird sounding, and i would love to use it, so does anyone on talkbass know what pedal and effect it is?

Sure does.

Les Claypool uses one or more multieffect pedals to get that sound. The thread I've linked goes into pretty good detail describing his exact rig. I believe this is the most thorough answer to the question I could provide.

Considering the lack of information and links provided by the OP, I don't know what more you could expect; this thread was limited to the answers received thus far by not providing adequate information. If you're so interested and are really trying to be helpful, then provide a link to the exact sound.

The 'exponential possibilities' are the number of sounds described as 'really weird' one could be referencing in a given Claypool song, as well as the number of effects used.. within a given multieffect, that he could have used. By giving the OP a link to a list of gear used by Claypool, he at least gets a starting point; going further than that will only lead to grasping at straws and giving out advice based on an educated guess as to what sound we're even trying to cop;

If you want one of us 'search whores' to hold your hand and tell you how to make this mysterious sound, then you ought to get to search whoring and find a link to that sound. Help us help you ;)

I listened to a live clip of the song, and all I heard was an envelope filter+delay for the first few notes, and then dry bass+envelope filter. Unless Im missing something from the studio version, he's just using an envelope filter throughout most of the song. (sounds like its from the ax3000b)

I built my own effect to sound like Les. Waht it does is for every note I can play, it spits out 4 more randomly generated notes in the same time I took to play my note. For instance if I play "DUM", it spits out "DUM BLAK BONG POW PLIP!" really really fast. The trick is it will repeat that same pattern every time I play DUM, so as to sound like I'm doing it on purpose. :totallyserioussmiliehere:
