Les Claypool Pachyderm inspired builds

Hi all,

I’m a amateur/hobby builder. I post some of my previous Carl Thompson builds about four years ago. Unfortunately, I ran out of funds having been out of work for a while.

I managed to put a little money aside towards the end of 2019 and in summer of 2020 I did a couple more builds. Pics and stats below.

Mahogany with Zebrawood top
Mahogany and oak neck with wenge fretboard
Emg precision bass pickups

The other is an Ash body with walnut top. The neck is a mix of maple, wenge and walnut. Emg X series precision pick ups.

Both basses have Kahler tremolos and Hipshot ultra light tuners.

I always wanted to have a bass like this (32 inch, small body, more than 24 frets, great looking woods), and ended with a Jazz Bass

Claypool really missed a business opportunity here: he created his own signature line of basses, with specification that you can't get from almost anyone else, but didn't make them available for millions of his fans that would buy them immediately

I've thought about that a few times, but I would bet that he likes having a super-special pretty rare bass. I can't blame him I probably would have big brass buttons too. They could always commission a duplicate from Thompson...

Either way - awesome work OP!

Yep. The zebra wood has the EMG PA pickups in it. The sound pretty good.
