Les Claypool's pedals

Well... He's been using a Korg AX300b multieffect unit for years for all of those drippy envelope sounds. He was using the Sansamp Bass Driver distortion for a couple of years but more recently switched to the MXR M-80. He's been using the Line 6 DL4 delay modeler since around the time of the last Primus album. I think he's been routing his signal into his Virus synthesizer on occasion. He always uses a DBX 160A compressor. He used to use an ADA preamp for many years through the early Primus days, but more recently has been using Ampeg heads and used more pedals to control his effects. The ADA pre was what did the chorus sound on songs like Frizzle Fry, and had the kind of raspy distortion on the older Primus stuff.

I just don't understand what he uses the synthesiser for since he also has the other pedals. Maybe I really understand but a lack of sleep and an abundance of caffine is probably clouding my thinking. Until I can think straight could you try to help me out?

Nevermind, I think I got it. Googled and I think I got it. I think I've seen this unit onstage before. I'm assuming when he routes a signal through it he can use his pedals to access the effects or does he have pedals that work especially for the synth. If my question doesn't doesn't make sense I can try again, I've been on little sleep for a while so...

I use to love the bullboard, but then it changed to the new format. The new format sucked all the fun out of that place. The chaos of the old board was what keapt it fun.

I think he uses the synth for a couple different things. I remember at a recent Primus show he was using it for these long synthy filter sweeps. He's been known to use the Virus' phaser as well for really heavy churning sounds.

No one knows exactly what Les uses. Not even Les. Much of Les' equipment is shrouded in secrecy and he is often afforded plausible deniability for his use of infra subharmonics that are potentially addictive. He is no less guilty that say lightwave for generating low order resonaces that are potentially liberating of ones inhibitions. Do recall Les used to work for ADA back in the day with the MB-1, so he is not shy of DSP. Also, his Carl Thompson basses have just a little something to do with Les' tone.

It's hardly shrouded in secrecy. And what do you mean by "low order resonaces"? And this isn't a discussion of Les' "tone", it's a discussion of what pedals and signal processors he uses to get his distinctive sounds.

This is perhaps the most confusing and confused post I've read all day.
