so like my band played a local dive. We were coming up to end of the last song of the first set, playing to more chairs than people (and more people than teeth) when a rumble ran over the stage. One of the lighting trussed had fallen. So, we broke, fixed up the truss, and took five. Suddenly, the bartender comes running over waving his hands and yelling "the fight, the fight". We also noticed most of the people who were still there were heading in the general direction of the bar which was off to the right of the stage. We cut our set short mid song and looked over to see a big screen tv behind the bar with a satellite feed of a boxing match. So, falling lights and pre-empted by a boxing match.
Hi @QORC, Wow. Tough night. I've played places like that, where the best looking girls have more teeth than tattoos. Thank you for your indulgence, BassCliff
We delayed our start once for a hockey game. The screen was pretty close to floor to ceiling, in front of the stage.
Rugby Union is probably the most popular sport in NZ and the NZ team 'All Blacks' are world champions... a few years ago my band went to our gig in a slightly rural pub and we started to set our speakers...etc... up then all of a sudden there was a huge uproar from a few people - we had placed one of the speakers a bit too close to the big screen TV and some patrons could not see the rugby on the TV.... they way they were carrying on was like the world was going to end!
So like, did you at least have a sandwich while you were watching the fight that you could share with us my Jersey Bass Brother?
Tough gig. I've played a few venues where the men are ugly and the women are uglier. lol Unfortunately sports preempt live music and most of my venues are sports pubs.
I teach Aikido. I've stopped fights at gigs a couple of times. Usually I just let it run its course though, unless someone's really getting hurt ... or they get too close to my amp.
we were playing the night Tyson bit that dudes ear, we might have played a half dozen tunes and we were done. Cool band name BTW
