Lessons In Dallas/Frisco Area

I picked up a bass for the first time and started messing around with it about 6-8 months ago. I've started playing with a friend of mine and we created a small band. I've written some bass lines of what I though "sounded good". We're starting to really want to get this thing rolling, not for any reason other than just having fun and see about playing somewhere live sometime, maybe a coffee shop, or a friends garage. haha.

Problem is, I REALLY don't know what I'm doing. I'd like to find someone who can teach me the bass, as well as some theory and stuff so I can write my own music. I just turned 29 and don't feel like being around kids learning to pluck out scales, I guess I need more of someone who can mentor me.

Anyone know of a good teacher in the Dallas (Preferably Frisco) area, that help me out? I know music somewhat, played trombone from 6-11th grade in highschool but that was about all.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have found that word of mouth is the best way to find a teacher. Ask musicians who they use -- like you are doing here.

No I do not know anyone in the Dallas area --- but, there has to be hundreds. With your background I think a nudge or two is all that will be necessary. A good teacher can give you enough "stuff" in a month to keep you busy for several months. Sounds like you need to bounce ideas off of someone more than you need to know how to hold the monster or run a scale.

If your church has a Praise Band attend a rehearsal and ask the bass for help. The music director may be able to give you some pointers. If not talk to the local High School music director he/she may know of someone.

Forget about the guy in the back room of your local music store. I've found those guys are able to play, but it's hit or miss if they know how to teach. There is a difference.

Using studybass has opened my eyes to some small things i've been doing wrong. I'm already on lesson two, as its been a slow day at work. I've stopped reading because I can't practice right now with it... I dont want to get ahead of myself.

Still looking for teachers in the DFW area. If anyone knows any, please let me know. Doesnt have to be Frisco.

I'll let you know by Saturday on here if I can make it, have some stuff going on, but I'm always down to listen to some good music. :bassist:
