How does this help a band? Does it actually help in the long run of things? If so how. I've seen this thread for a few weeks and was just wondering.
I have had club owners/managers ask me about our Facebook presence. "How many likes do you have?" has been asked of me. They don't care if the numbers are "accurate," it's more of a measure of our marketing efforts and growth. I have also had club owners tell me to post on their wall in the weeks leading up to a gig to help promote it. They understand, as do I, that this kind of free marketing is useful.
If you don't want to participate, feel free to ignore this thread. I'm okay with people coming in here to ask why we do this, but IMO there is no reason to post a comment bashing us for doing it. It certainly isn't hurting anyone!
Great idea! Would appreciate any likes y'all can throw our way. I will reciprocate.

My bad. "Fart in the wind" my old man would say that from time to time, haha.10cc, you weren't bashing at all. Others were a few pages back.
The way I see it, any press is a good thing. Especially the free kind! My last band had over 1000 likes and it definitely helped us with booking. When we called a venue to book and they didn't know us, we could point them to the fb page. It helped show them we were the real deal, not just some fart in the wind. They could browse through hundreds of pics as well.
I'm probably repeating myself. Sorry.
