Hi Gabu,

glad you enjoyed it - there's another one there now, which will make for an interesting comparison - it's a new version of 'Highway 1' from my latest CD, only with a keyboardist on it as well, who had never heard the track (it was actually in the middle of an improv sesh we were having, and I happened to throw this in. I just started by playing the same first couple of loops that I use on Highway 1 and then improv'd from there...)

you can compare it with another live version that's there as well, if you like! :D

I followed DHC's advice for a simple way to record. It worked just fine. I used my Ovation ABG with a 1/4" to 1/8" cable, plugged into the MIC jack of my sound card. The volume for MICROPHONE in my sound card settings was turned all the way up. So, here's a little noodle I did:

I followed my instinct for the most part. I used my knowledge of the pentatonic scale mostly, and tried to create a kind of agressive feel.

I felt very limited, and it was almost painful to get the idea out from my head on to the bass. Even with the two booboos on here, this took more than one take for me to make my bass play what I was hearing.

This is why I take lessons, study books, and chat here. Because I want to play bass as well as I can speak.

Very cool, Gabe! I've tried, but I can't play an ABG at all. :( You rock.

I totally forgot about the mic volume. I think maybe I'll try turning it way down and seeing if it can handle the preamp that way.

And Steve...HW1 is very cool. Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. I really dig Patrick's playing too; I love the Fender Rhodes tone, especially alongside your playing. Anything subliminal [Buy] in the [my ] backwards [CD] masking? ;) :D Great stuff.

Wow, this thread took off. I've been gone for the duration of the christmas break. No internet for me. I just recenlty got back though. My recordings? Being fifteen, I don't have a lot of Moolah. I do now though.(yeah, yeah, it's christmas money, so what?) It just a matter of getting the equipment. I'll get it this weekend and I'll post a whole new thread on it. Sorry for the wait, but that's how it is with no income.:(

You don't need any special equipment, Terry. It's just one cable you can buy at your local electronics store. It has a 1/4" jack on one end, a 1/8" jack on the other, and is about 6 feet long.

Then to record:

Doubleclick on the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen, click options, select properties, put the bullet in RECORDING, turn your MICROPHONE all the way up, and then close the window.

Next click start, programs, accessories, entertainment, and then SOUND RECORDER.

Now plug your cable in the input jack of bass, and the microphone jack of your sound card.

Press the record button.

Start playing!

It will record up to one minute at a time.

Thanks man. :) And that's a good idea for your PC recording. Just drop it way down, then record just a few notes and check it for clipping.

really glad you're enjoying it - Patrick's Rhodes sound is excellent. I keep listening to the track and thinking I need to do more playing with him...

As for backward masking - sounds like a great idea, I'll have to try that! ROTFL

As for now - here's some forward masking - buy my cds!! :D

Yup, just experimenting with the power. My former amp, which was my first, was only a little 15-watter. You can imagine my excitement.
It would probably be very blurred and hard to hear. I could hear Grandma's chinawear rattling across the living room! Whoohoo! Nothing broke, granny was amused.:)

ok, so here are my improvisations. i have to admit that i am a bit afraid to post them on a forum full of superb bassist ready to rip my playing apart...

that said, some information about the recordings:

they were recorded using a marleaux jb-5, plugging directly into a sb live. they were left unchanged except for some light reverb and compression in 2 tracks. please note that all of these are really improvised "one-shots", so please excuse some of my sloppiness and the lack of groove!

What file format is your file? If it's still in WAV, you may have to ZIP it, or convert it to MP3.

Then, click on the attach file button, browse over to where the file is, and attach it.

Last, complete your post. It should be available for listening then.
