Hi everybody.
Just now, while listening to Amy Winehouse, I discovered that "Tears dry on their own" 's bass lines is a total quote of Jamerson's "Ain't no mountain high enough" for Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell.
So I decided to start a sort of game, just to see what happens: let's search for borrowed/stolen bass lines.
Rules: the goal is to find real copies (and/or samples);
"Good Times" is copied in "Rapper's Delight", but in "3 on E" is just a sort of quote.
A lot of ska tunes fit perfectly: the same riddim used in different songs.
"Start!" by The Jam sounds a lot like The Beatles "Taxman", but it's not the same.

Not a bass line, but the horn line at 5:25 from War's "Slippin' into Darkness", is the chorus for Bob Marley's "Get Up, Stand Up".

Massive Attack’s “Safe From Harm” is built on the sampled bass line from Billy Cobham’s “Stratus”.

Eric B & Rakim’s “Paid In Full” uses the bass line from Dennis Edwards’ “Don’t Look Any Further”.

Khaled’s “Ragda” uses the bass line from Augustus Pablo’s “Jah Dread”/“Stop Them Jah”.

Ice-T’s “High Rollers”, Digable Planets’ “Nickel Bags” and Dilated Peoples’ “Global Dynamics” all sample the bass line from Edwin Starr’s “Easin’ In”.

Pino D’Angio’s “Okay Okay” and “Ma Quale Idea” both have bass lines heavily inspired by McFadden & Whitehead’s “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now”.

It's not just the bass line, it's the entire backing track. Which, IMO, is genius, because you can listen to her tune and not think about ANMHE. Brilliant
